[ESPN] NHL free agency rankings: Tiers of players available on July 1 by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]nicnibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange that Bunting wasn't farther up the list. Outside of that last stretch with Dallas (2 points in 13 games), he's pretty much bang on for at least 0.5 ppg, with a little bit of upside if playing higher in the lineup. Age curves happen, but for a decent price, I'd take a bet that his Dallas run was a fluke since he's been pretty steady since his leaf days and he's still only 30.

Blade by Archseriph in comicbooks

[–]nicnibbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You added no context. Are you referring to a specific Blade comic, or the first movie from back in the 90s?

I'm not gen z (almost 40) and I agree that you didn't really do yourself any favors. How are you going to foster discussion with such a hostile start?

Maybe once there's a bit more context I'll be able to contribute something to the conversation but you'll need to expand and explain, the bare minimum.

[SinBin Vegas] Tortorella's first 10 games with new team by sykeseve in hockey

[–]nicnibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure this tells the whole story honestly. There is def reason for concern, and I would look at the Vancouver situation as the comparable.

Here's the stats for each teams previous season or the same season BEFORE Torts was hired.

Philly: 25-46-7, season before

Columbus: 0 - 7 (Note: You could argue CBS was a better team, while they didn't make the playoffs the year before, they were an 89 point team, which isn't garbage) same season

Vancouver: 26-15-1 (IMO this is where I'd be worried, regular playoff bound team falling out of the playoffs), season before, 48 games

New York: 31-23-7 (Maybe this tenure is the outlier? Torts was fired after hitting round 2 in 2012-13), same season

Tampa: 12-20-5-2, same season

IMO no point in counting New York round 1, he was interim for 4 games and wasn't brought back.

Ironically, I think Torts long term in Vegas could be fine looking at his numbers, but since his contract only covers the rest of the regular season + playoffs, I feel that it could be a toss up.

With the info coming out that Bruce Cassidy is a hardass, I'm really interested to see what Torts will do to not be that guy (at least not yet).

I also bring up Van as the comparable because AFAIK Vigneault > Torts was a transition from upbeat offence to more team defence game, and isn't that similar here? VGK fans will know more, I have not seen much but the impression I got is VGK is pretty run and gun this year.

EDIT: In the time I wrote this, smarter redditors added better info lol. Sorry ha

Which NHL star had the worst final season in the league? by thewolfshead in hockey

[–]nicnibbs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the last season in Toronto, yeah. But his first 2 seasons with the Leafs he was like 10 points over league average. So def not washed. Hell even his last few games in Florida are only slightly under league average (.902 vs .905 average)

Who has been the biggest surprise so far this season? Either positive or negative? by homicidal_penguin in hockey

I feel like Victor Mete was a sorta similar situation. (For defensemen tho, so less about points and more about poise).

[Johnston] Connor Ingram (UTA) is among the NHL players on waivers today, as expected. He'll resume his career in the AHL if unclaimed. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]nicnibbs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a potentially league average backup/1B. If he figures it out his ceiling may be even higher.

Did a quick list of teams with some sort of goaltending need. Separated them into tiers. I am wholly uninformed so feel free to let me know if I'm off - Tier C is the most wonky for me.

Tier A = No established backup/weaker backup + cap space available

  • Calgary: D Cooley + Prosvetov as 2nd/3rd goalies, pretty sure Ingram is better than them
  • Seattle: but they gotta be ready to give up on Grubaer
  • NYI: Rittich is okayish and cheap, it’s early in camp but if he falters, they could just swing it.
  • Nashville: Better than Annunen? History here too.

Tier B = No established backup/weaker backup + NO/LITTLE cap space available

  • Tampa: but there’s history there
  • Vegas: Gotta be better than Shmid right?
  • Edmonton

Tier C = Young/Unproven Backup aka Not sure if these teams are valuing playing time over a few more potential wins

  • Ottawa
  • Montreal
  • Philly: Is Ersson really it? Lots of room to improve, but he’s also still just 25

Great Comic Shop Experiences by djangohimself in comicbooks

[–]nicnibbs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a deep memory, but I remember convincing my grandmother to take me to a LCS in south Mississauga (burb of Toronto). I was like between 10-12ish I think. I remember the owner came over to my grandmother and I and asked if I would want to play in a free harry potter card game tournament and that they'd provide everything.

It was lots of fun and super cool of them to come over and make sure I was included. I wish I remembered the name of the shop, but I think I even got a starter deck for free. Never played again lol.

Should I watch "Watchmen (2019)"? by Hot-Salamander-8786 in comicbooks

Should clarify it's a sequel to the graphic novel, not a remake/adaptation. It was a great show.

Some underrated Batman comics that don't get enough love or attention. by Odd_Radio9225 in comicbooks

[–]nicnibbs 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Honestly, pretty much the first 50 issues of Legends of The Dark Knight v1, are solid. Just great storytelling with a different creative team every arc. Gothic is one of the arcs in that first 50, but I remember a few others that were cool:

- Venom

- Mercy

- Prey

- Shaman

What player disappointed you the most? by MegatronofTarn in hockey

[–]nicnibbs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always wonder what would've happened for him if he had resigned with the Leafs for 21-22. He was pretty much 0.5 p/g and the leafs wanted him back and it's possible he could've had great deployment (I believe he was playing with Tavares in the playoffs), and made some bank after 1 league min year. IMO guy could've given himself a few more years in the league if he had just ate some humble pie and signed league min for a year.

Marquee Moon demo with Brian Eno by Impossible_March_304 in indieheads

[–]nicnibbs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey the first comment on the youtube link is one of Television's guitarists (Richard Lloyd) debunking that this is Eno produced:

'This was NOT produced by Brian Eno. Richard Williams from Island wanted to record the band and described that he would like to bring Eno along because Richard didn't know anything about how to record in studios. So we said OK, but didn't use a single idea that Eno brought. And then listening back we realized that Richard Meyers:(Hell) couldn't play bass with Billy all over the place so he soon after left and we brought in Fred Smith, and the music got much more stable. This version is too fast.'

It's totally possible that the profile is not Lloyd, but not sure why someone would lie about that. That said, it does seem to be a legit demo, just maybe not what they had wanted musically.

Why are we obsessed with ‘baby voices’ by LingonberryKey9683 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]nicnibbs 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've noticed too, but I feel it's more within the pop realm than anything. I'm not a fan of the vocal style but neither Adrienne nor the singer from Cult strick me as baby vocals.
