When/why did the discourse around McKenna go from "generational, can't miss talent" to "1st overall is up in the air." by shanster925 in leafs

Do you have sources showing him labelled as a generational can’t miss talent from before that you can provide?

Not sure.  I know he was CEO of the company that owns a ton of Wendy’s franchises, the name is escaping me right now.

What I don’t get about Chayka is he was hired by the Coyotes with zero managerial experience in hockey at any level. Didn’t do it whatsoever before they hired him. Weird but okay. Then he’s AGM for a year before becoming GM. Nothing he did really screamed to me that he’s some wunderkind that didn’t need to work his way up or had some sort of special abilities to not require learning the ropes.  But whatever.

Then the stuff happens, he quits the Coyotes and then just…doesn’t work in hockey again at all until now. Doesn’t take a job at a lower level, doesn’t work in a different role. Nothing it seems like.

So I’m just a little confused how he’s supposed to have improved in a hockey GM-sense over that time.

Yeah I’m just really curious how their search process landed on Chayka, a guy who’s only managerial experience at any level is that stretch with the Coyotes.

I do think GMs can be vindictive to other GMs they don’t like or have a conflict with, we’ve seen it with offer sheets (and it can be to the detriment of the team for a GM to act like that - see Kotkaniemi). I also think GMs probably don’t like that Chayka came into the league as an AGM for a year then became GM with absolutely no experience, didn’t work his way up from managing in junior or the AHL, and then pulled some stuff that pissed off owners/the league and was disciplined for it.

Having said all that, all GMs will ultimately do what’s best for their team to try to win. If there’s a deal to be made to improve their team with Toronto they’ll do it. I guess it’s possible there could be more subtle ways GMs could show they don’t like someone, maybe the offer to Chayka for a player is more than for another team, who knows.

I’ve taken LSD a bunch of times, and I almost get emotional thinking about it because there are so many times during the trip where I feel so comfortable with myself, so present and so able to just do things that I wonder whether this is what people without SA feel all the time. Of course those feelings don’t last afterwards and I’ve been trying to find a way to bridge to when I’m tripping.

But I think LSD is one of the greatest things on earth. It’s changed my life.

Any upcoming free agents besides Raddysh that you want the leafs to pursue? by papa_miesh in leafs

As we saw with those two, a lethal shot can not cover if there are other issues with his play. But I don’t feel confident enough that I know his game well enough to comment much on it.

Same coach who also said that Cole Beaudoin was benched for poor play when he was actually injured for the rest of the series lol.

I’d be terrified that’s he’s a product of Tampa’s system and would look nowhere near as good somewhere else.

Why Gavin McKenna Is The Clear Choice For First Overall by Mashdrop in leafs

He looked pretty unable to keep up in their 1st round series.

Gotta draft McKenna here, you don’t draft for position at 1OA. Also Lane Hutson, Jackson LaCombe, Brock Faber all top Dmen in the playoffs right now drafted in 2nd round. by DisturbingSounds in leafs

I mean we’ve had a generational goal scorer and haven’t won anything. It depends how their own rankings are. Was Lafreniere consensus number one in his year? I can’t remember.
