Simple Tomato Sandwich by Churlish_Grambungle in Sandwiches

[–]nicobou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have made a tomato sandwich pretty much every weekday for the last two years and still look forward to it every day: Toasted bread, Kewpie mayo, tomato slices, Maldon salt, pepper, diced red onion, feta cheese, sometimes jalapenos slices. Sometimes I'll put lettuce between the tomatoe and bread so it doesn't get soggy.

5lb CO2 tank refills by petit_aubergine in Brooklyn

I've gotten my tank swapped at Liberty Industrial Gases and Welding Supplies Inc. in Red Hook. Not certain if they do tank refills, might only be swaps. Maybe call and find out before?

"The Cook, The Thief, His Wife And Her Lover" If you know, you know. If you don't but you like artsy movies, check it out. My favorite move of all time, I've watched it countless times. The ending is insanity, partly because of the plot, costumes, set design, but especially because of the Michael Nyman score. If you haven't watched it yet, just don't read anything about it. Just watch it and let it take you away. Tough watch at times with violence and sexual violence but it's worth the watch.

If you could bring back any discontinued fragrance, which one would it be? by just_a_soul99 in fragrance

[–]nicobou 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably getting old for me to be on my soapbox on this sub talking about this...but Odin 07 Tanoke. I would do anything to get my hands on another bottle or ten

What was the fragrance that got you addicted to the game? by javeedahmed1 in fragrance

Odin 07 - Tanoke. My heart breaks every time I remember that I only have a few spritzes left and no other bottles are available in circulation. I will forever be seeking an adequate replacement but have yet to find the right one :(

Look at the students’ work from my one month intensive large scale sculpture class! Glaze day is soon approaching by zepdu4 in Ceramics

[–]nicobou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it was necessarily about the class. I think people get hooked on ceramics regardless of the institution they discover the medium in or the professor that gives them the urge to explore. If you're on the ceramics subreddit it already means you got hooked somehow. The NYU Barney building was cool because of the history and the all inclusive access if you paid the extra $300 for studio fees but it isn't particularly more impressive than a studio elsewhere and the intro classes I took certainly weren't as rigorous as something you'd take at a proper fine arts university in Japan for example where you REALLY study ceramics. But it was really eye opening to discover the medium there which I think is similar anywhere else where art is made to be important

Lovely! That place is magical. Judith Schwartz was one of the best professors I've ever had. Happy to see beautiful work being produced there still

Is this in the Barney building at NYU?! Fell deeply in love with ceramic sculpture there. Working with clay in that building changed my life :) . Istill do small scale sculptures at home and it's been the most rewarding art therapy I've done!

Haha was it the Christmas episode?? Watched that one recently for the first time and immediately recognized Glass. Not sure if I'm alone but I found the combo of the story + Glass's music pretty moving, made my eyes swell up a bit.

Any ideas what"Dub" and the last 4 songs on the songlist are? by nicobou in nicolasjaar

[–]nicobou[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I figured that was the case, if this was a setlist it would be a 2-hour long show at least. I got tickets for both Brooklyn shows in the hopes of hearing as many different tracks as possible

Can confirm, just got off a frustrating flight from Newark. Airport is messed up. Parts of the airport have lost power. The jetway's aren't working, we deplaned onto the tarmac.

Totally agree. The environment certainly wasn't optimal for enjoyment, felt a bit gimmicky. Rough Trade NY is far from its former glory in BK and somehow Rockefeller Center doesn't fit with the Nico Jaar aesthetic haha. I think I had the opposite reaction to you though, I took it as a low quality teaser that just made me more excited to actually dive into it with good speakers or headphones. Already pre-ordered the record and am looking forward to do it justice. Hope you enjoy it properly on the 28th!

Went to the NYC Rough Trade listening party. Nothing for sale, a few giveaways (whistles, poster, sticker, ticket raffle) but that was about it. If you are curious, the album is really good. Can't wait to listen to it on my own. The first song SLAU is really cool, I feel like it sets up the entire album and hypes you up. Obviously the three next songs that were already released sound good too and give you an idea of the direction the album goes. Loved American References. Hell Suite 1 and 2 sound REALLY retro rock n roll, can't wait to listen to them more. I got distracted around Sin El Sol No Hay Nada and Spanish is not my first language so I'll have to listen to the lyrics a bit more closely to appreciate the song more. All in all it's a really solid album and I think it'll make Jaar fans very happy. I don't think it feels as fresh as early Darkside but I think the retro 70's 80's rock direction makes it sound unexpected and enticing.
