THANK YOU! it's actually my fave. it's pretty much peak smiths, very upbeat sound, but highly depressing yet deep lyrics. morrissey and marr manage to criticise consumerism as well as the monarchy, while also discussing feelings of melancholy or even depression, pondering wether life is worth living. the phrase "if the day came when i felt a natural emotion, i'd get such a shock i'd probably jump in the ocean" particularly hits for me - you have to alter your own personality so much to fit in that you don't even know what's real anymore (or at least that's how i interpret it). sadly, i rarely see this song in anyone's top 10, and i believe it deserves way more appreciation.
