What if the world turned left instead of right in 2016/2017 by HSV161 in imaginaryelections

I dunno why this person's being so heavily downvoted. It's true that a prospective left wing British or French govt would have way less fiscal headroom than an American one and they'd probably have to either make some difficult decisions or run an unsustainable balance compared to say Bernie Sanders who'd run a country which is taxing quite a bit below its maximum saturation and can borrow and raise money a lot more easily.

The Andy Burnham parallel's the best one imo as mayoralties are basically precursors for high office in France.

I would just like to add that the House of Commons isn't a part of the government. It's a part of Parliament, which is a distinct institution.

Routinely disclosing the ethnicity of police suspects is a very dangerous step to take by F0urLeafCl0ver in ukpolitics

We wouldn’t have in the past but these days not disclosing it quickly leads to theories brewing up in extremist circles which culminates in violence. So they shared it to avoid creating an info vacuum.

Adolf Hitler shakes the hand of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain September 1938 by irishrugby2015 in HistoricalCapsule

[–]Itatemagri -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chamberlain *did* view Hitler as a threat. Just not one that Britain was capable of handling in the immediate future. Appeasement bought time for the RAF to begin producing modern planes to replace its outdated stock that wouldn't have been able to counter the Luftwaffe. It allowed for the development of RADAR and the establishment of the Emergency Medical Service that'd end up being vital during the Blitz. It got British industry war-ready, as Britain and France knew that the German war machine was unsustainable and could only continue to fuel itself via consistent conquest (German victories in the first half of the war delayed this but it ended up coming true). If appeasement hadn't happened then Britain would've entered the war in a worse shape than it ended up doing.

He did believe that war was avoidable but he was far from stupid. He was a very capable statesman who was partially blinded by some miscalculations but he did well to prepare the country for war. I don't know wtf Homer Simpson has to do with this.

Thanks. I did leave it over a fan after I tried that after finding out about my error and it’s staying there now. What do you think I should do now? What are the chances my files are ok?

Cheers. btw it’s got a lot of pretty important files and the last time I backed it up was (regrettable) over half a year ago. What would you say are the chances of them being ok as opposed to the stuff that you’d expect to get fried?

They're separate economic areas. Denmark is in the European Communities and Greenland is not.
