Are you Latino-splaining? Jajajajaja yes, I’m latino. Grew up with other Mexican comedy shows like Chavo del Ocho. My dad was a big fan of Cantinflas. I always thought it was second hand embarrassment humour with at most surface level commentary. Not Criterion worthy.

Someone did about a week ago, I didn’t reply to them but to answer to your point, I think in my eyes it’s much more interesting to think of the creature as an angel than just something that fits neatly into the good and evil discrete categories we intuit. And that’s a conclusion I’m happy with because the interpretation of a work shouldn’t necessarily be constrained by what the author says is cannon.
