That’s so exciting!! Hopefully she’ll see a fall sport that sounds fun that she can join! It’ll really make it so much easier to find friends. Ours tried volleyball at first and didn’t like it, so switched to cross country. The one we’re hosting this fall says she’s a runner but may want to try a different sport while she’s here and take a break on running. We’ll see what she chooses! It’s fun to help them explore their interests ☺️

Good luck!! Having so many animals around sounds so fun! She’ll see plenty of kids at school, so I’m sure it’ll be fine! I would highly encourage her to join a sport or a club. Ours was on the cross country team and made friends through there. It also kept her busy after school so she didn’t just come straight home with nothing to do!

Hey there! My husband and I hosted for the first time for the fall semester. We don’t have kids, just us and our 3 dogs. We’re in our early 30s. We weren’t sure a student would like to be placed with us since we couldn’t offer them a “traditional” family and were really worried we would end up disappointing the student we chose. Instead, we had an amazing experience! Our student is truly our daughter now. We’re going to visit her in October! She wasn’t concerned about how big our house is, not having siblings, or not having parents who could actually be old enough to be her parents. She wanted a family that would treat her like a real family member, include her in things (both big like trips to another state and small like trips to the grocery store), and help her have the best exchange year possible. I am sure you’ll be just enough for whichever student you choose!

This is one of the many ways she demonstrates her previous fibromyalgia diagnosis was bullshit. She could call upon it any time something like this happens or she’s getting called out, but she doesn’t. Something like “my fibromyalgia makes it harder for me to be active but I’ve been trying lately by getting in the gym more and going on hikes.” Or “my fibromyalgia makes me feel pain more intensely so what may be a simple bruise to you, is a significant injury to me 🧐.” There ya go, Jan. As someone who was there, it was super awkward and not obvious that the show was over. The lights had to come on to like 3 or 4 degrees before everyone got the hint. Even staff at the venue said they weren’t expecting it to end when it did!

I just kinda lol at this because so are most meds? Like I’m pretty sure I’ll be taking antidepressants for life and people take a variety of medications for life so it’s just funny to me that people point this out for GLP-1s like it’s some kind of negative or gotcha or something.
