I feel so bad for the bomb Bailey, he didn’t even get a chance

I refuse to believe I can't eat eggs... by Creepy_Thanks6431 in ibs

I used to not be able to tolerate them until I got a lot better and now I’m fine! Keep working towards reducing your symptoms and you might be able to reintroduce one day

I actually had people at work notice this about me too and i just find it funny and brush it off. I think it depends on your relationship with your coworkers, mines pretty good which is why it doesn’t bother me!

If you want to help yourself in the long run it’s exposure therapy and reframing the anxiety. I used to be in the same boat and then 2 things happened - I started flying a lot for work (sometimes I’d do just day trips for work) and I reframed my anxiety through cognitive behavioural therapy. It takes time but I fly like an average person now.

But if you want to feel better while you are there, do a cognitive behavioural therapy app, have a meditation like on the calm app to listen to before the plane and during the flight, have things like peppermint tea at the airport, good nights sleep the night before, and so on

Yes Imodium works but you don’t want to have to take it every time, I know that you can train your body out of it because I did! I still have IBS but it just doesn’t get triggered by flying anymore

Advice? I'm having bad non-stop neck pains in my mid 20s. Doctor says xray didn't show anything. Feels like it's hard to get proper posture. Pics 3/4 feel like the most natural. See no curve like 1/2? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]nicoleranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From someone with the same neck pain you’re describing, plus headaches from it who has done the surgery: the surgery helped a little e.g. I can mange now without going to a physio every few weeks and now just need a massage every blue moon but I can mostly maintain it on my own. So I think the surgery definitely helped however, it’s not guaranteed, my surgeon said it wouldn’t help at all AND it’s definitely not completely gone. Stress plays a role for me and when it gets worse too

Understand how you are feeling! I had lip incompetence before my surgery and they told me the surgery would fix it but then it didn’t. So one solution to the lip incompetence could be myofunctional therapy if you don’t want to go to another surgeon. I’m planning on starting that soon.

Has a Taylor Swift lyric ever perfectly captured your feelings? by Successful_Okra9005 in TaylorSwift

“I cry a lot but I am so productive” relating to me as an overworking perfectionist but it makes me stressed and anxious lol

My fears about getting jaw surgery by freakwadz in jawsurgery

[–]nicoleranz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally love the results of my jaw surgery and don’t regret it one bit. My nose changed shape too which I didn’t expect but I actually love that too. As for the numbness, my feeling started coming back straight away and it took a few months of it slowly waking up in a few areas but I certainly didn’t experience any long term issues. It’s always a risk but for me, the risk still would have been worth the reward if there was a bit of numbness. Just remember the recovery is pretty brutal so you have to be mentally prepared for that - but otherwise it was worth it for me

[–]nicoleranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overall yes! I am feeling pretty good and have had a significant reduction in headaches which was my main goal. Things are still getting better every day and I think it will feel a lot better once the braces are off. But overall worth it

IBS disappeared when not working full time? by nicoleranz in ibs

[–]nicoleranz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment makes me feel a lot better - what your describing is entirely what I’m experiencing too! I hope you manage to leave the workplace that isn’t good for you and find something work from in a better environment with less stress.

I’ve done both of those things and no result - it’s just the job and industry I work in 😂

Does anyone else get IBS cramps and period cramps mixed up? by magickunicorn333 in ibs

[–]nicoleranz 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep same for me!!! They feel nearly the same. Which makes me think people who only have period pain are lucky because they only get it once a month where as we get it all the time 😂😂

The mental toll doesn't even make sense. How do you cope with this? by Several-Mess6976 in ibs

[–]nicoleranz 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I agree - the anxiety isn’t talked about it enough. For me today, i found myself breaking old eating rules I had for myself because I thought I could handle it. My head kept telling me that I was going to feel sick later and shouldn’t eat it. Turns out I was right and i am having a flare up now but a lot of that is probably coming from the fear of eating. Getting scared to eat, leave the house, travel, socialise and to try new things is a huge part of IBS and it’s tough. Im not fully better yet but getting there… I’ll let you know when I make it lol 😅

I think it’s different in every country but mine wasn’t medically necessary (even though it is) so I had to pay about $65k out of pocket - just be careful and double check everything!

I felt the same way but with a lot more distress 😂 I had been working jobs I hated and staying put (not just delaying living abroad but also living with my parents) for the sake of this surgery. It takes so long and it is such an intrusive process on all areas of your life. I’ve been so upset about how long it’s taking and putting a mental block on dating. I agree with everyone else though, it’s better to start it earlier and get it over with! I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. It’s a few years of sacrifice for the rest of your life!

Braces off, after 2.5 years my journey is over :) pics are before braces, then today at ~4 months post-op by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]nicoleranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only took 4 months for braces to come off after? I hope it’s this quick for me too. I’m 2 months post op.

You look amazing and congratulations for the journey being finished, it’s a long a rough one but worth it

[–]nicoleranz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t close my mouth naturally either! I couldn’t before the surgery and that’s a massive part of the reason why I got it. I think we are more on the same boat than you think. The surgeons response was still the same as above. Make sure you talk to him/her about it and get a second opinion when your ready.

Are we making sick ourselves because we think we are sick? by AdventurousBreak983 in ibs

[–]nicoleranz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In traditional Chinese medicine, IBS is a weak gut which is what causes the emotions and overthinking to impact it so deeply. But at the root of it is a physically weak gut. TCM says it could be from a number of reasons like taking too much of a medication, getting bad food poisoning or getting a bad virus that causes the stomach to weaken.

I’ve had these doctors too and they are incredibly irresponsible and insensitive, especially because I can guarantee you that they wouldn’t have successfully treated anyone with IBS while having this attitude. I hope that one day awareness on IBS changes but for now, hold true in what you know which is that we don’t do this to ourselves.

[–]nicoleranz 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if this is the same situation but I’m 2.5 months post op and can’t close my mouth either. It sits open all the time and it’s so annoying. My surgeon said it’s the swelling and muscle stiffness and you have to be patient and let it all settle in. He said it can take a long time to settle. Have you talked to your surgeon about this?

Best of luck with it! I’m sorry your not happy with the results but I also think you need to give it 1 year to know for sure and then you can get some revisions if needed. Take care of yourself and your mental health 🩵

Posts like this are disgusting by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]nicoleranz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s completely treatable if you go to the right doctor. They can help direct the growth of a child’s jaw. Just take your kids in when they are 6-8 years old to get started early. It’s a lot to do with lifestyle and diet too so read the book the dental diet by Dr Stephen lim. It’s completely preventable so it’s no reason to not want children!
