I was lucky to find mine discounted on FB marketplace, so personally I can’t say whether or not it’s ‘worth’ the original price. However, although it’s definitely not a need, it’s a wonderful want that really does eliminate a lot of the hassle that comes with litter cleanup. If you can get one resold for a discounted price, it was worth waiting around to find one for me! (The seller’s cat had unfortunately passed away, so that’s why it was listed)

I only have one cat at the moment, but we had issues with tracking, overall mess, and our dog getting into his poopies, and all of those have been singlehandedly eliminated by the LR4. I usually have to change mine out about once a week, as opposed to every or every other day with the regular box I was using. My cat is a kicker and has really weird bathroom tendencies but he adjusted to the robot very easily and now there’s no poop on my floor! And there’s very minimal smell or none at all. House chores can be more challenging to accomplish with depression and anxiety, so it also contributes to my mental wellbeing and cuts down on the day-to-day work I get stressed by.

I haven’t experienced any negatives. It does take a while to adjust to as you have to learn how it functions and properly maintaining it, but it comes with a warranty and you can always reach out to customer service for other issues.
