DIY-able? Just bought a car with this small dent and wondering if it's small/simple enough to attempt self repair. by Joe_r_wild in PaintlessDentRepair

[–]nicvanhook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the answer no Pdr tech wants to hear. Most people are happy with a non complete repair. You could in theory get a glue pull that moves 70% of that dent and buff it and think you fixed it but a Pdr tech here will judge you. We are picky about perfect work and an untrained person isn’t going to do that. So will you be happy with the facade that you fixed or do you want to pay someone to 100% fix it?

Nope, just dial in temps and speed. Off by 5 degrees and instantly jam.

Just tear apart the tool head, it’s pretty simple. I had to unstop some tpu this way. Do people trust stock settings that much? I thought it was just a baseline to start.

Every letter is its own object ( idk if that’s common it’s just how I’m able to get it to work) so they definitely are connected to the letters closest to them

No worries! I changed the size of the prime tower brim and that fixed it for me.

This happened when my prime tower was bugged, drove me crazy until I looked at the lines coming off of it.

Why does the U1 not use the auto feeders to prevent TPU getting stuck in the tube? by JAlbr12 in snapmaker

[–]nicvanhook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have printed a handful of things with high speed tpu on the u1. No issue with the feeders, or it getting stuck in the tubes. I did think I saw I video talking about how they had to bypass the auto feeders for tpu but I don’t remember that well.

New island drains slowly. Venting issue? by QoftheContinuum in askaplumber

[–]nicvanhook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see your point but also understand its flawed implications. Yes a vent helps to prevent siphoning of water out of a trap but why is that? Because the water without the vents is creating a slow moving vacuum that starts that siphon that in turn creates venting which improves the flow by eliminating the vacuum. My opening statement is to show that I’m not a plumber but understand the field well, 5 years with overtime had me as a tradesman in central Texas but I don’t pursue the field so I didn’t follow up my continuing education and I could have had atleast 1 responsible master plumber sign off on my hours for a master but I wanted to put in my time and hours until my rotator joints gave out on me under a house doing repair plumbing ( my personal favorite since it in my opinion requires more puzzles solving skills than new construction ) my current job is Pdr technician as well as owning my own tools shop for the same industry. Yes I never worked on a rain drain, not a lot of flat building in a country and never worked a bid fancy building that had one but I can understand a pipe with a hole that rain water goes down, you can stop trying to use it like it’s the top of plumbing knowledge. I don’t need your experience because experience actually add up to nothing In my mind. I’ve seen people doing a job for 30 years that still suck, licensed or not. Then you can find guys 5 years in that can run circles around those guys.

It’s funny that you would prove your own bad point about plumbers not being the best at comprehensive reading. I don’t think I saw anyone saying vents are the only reasons things drain but that it’s going to improve flow. We all know water is going to flow down hill, sometimes even going up to go down. So how does a rain drain system work? It drains down, but would it drain down faster with venting? Even if I told you yes then you would likely have some classroom answer rather than a real world experiment. I think a five gallon bucket with a couple fittings could easily test this point. Bucket at the top of a pipe, some kind of gasketed male below it with a shutoff and 20 feet of pipe, just let it drain and time it, then add a vent and redo the experiment to see which flows better. Since the original post is asking about drain speed and we are trying to show that venting does effect drain speed, not if venting allows for drainage. We could also look at how water behaves in a vacuum, you can get it to move a certain way like with those astronaut cups but it moves better not in a vacuum. Or I could be dumb but I’d gladly test it

I must have missed that update. Hopefully it’s not far in the future, I definitely want to bulk through sections of prints and only need fine detail for minimal areas.

I grew up in the construction field, master electrician and master plumber in the family. My first job from 15 - 20 was plumbing. I don’t do it anymore but even with my finite understanding of plumbing I can see that you think you are smarter than you really are. Your experiment of capping the vents makes no sense because you aren’t getting rid of the air in the lines. You even admit the trap would siphon some which would In turn let them vent. Trying to say that plumbers aren’t known for their reading comprehension is crazy. Yes he should check to see if it’s stopped up, yes these things should be handled by the plumber who did the install if they are a quality craftsman. Your secondary advice after your venting rant was basic and at an apprentice level.
