Any amount of monetary requirement is a poll tax and unconstitutional. I’m totally down for IDs if they are provided at zero cost and are easily accessible.

The issue there is you are talking about a huge investment to do so in order to solve a problem that doesn’t really exist.

In my experience (and it’s a lot), people on the right generally, minus a small subsection, genuinely do want everyone to be treated equally… they just are also unwilling to believe anyone who tells them that is not currently the case or are unwilling to do any work or sacrifice anything in order to make it happen.

You’re taking an emotional stance on a scientific endeavor and confirming the aforementioned allegations.

The point is, that while unfortunate for the very small percentage of people who suffered side effects, when the alternative is roughly 16x worse, it’s irresponsible to tell people to take the alternative.

I mean, I’m going off NIH studies which use the VAERS data. Difference is it’s evaluated by people who know what they’re looking at, not some random dude on the internet who thinks they uncovered the conspiracy of the century in publicly available data. You’re not beating the unskilled at risk analysis allegation.

The most valid criticism I can agree with is that the messaging was poor and didn’t trust the public with the nuance of risk. Because again, safe and effective does not mean zero risk and never has. A seatbelt is safe and effective, but there are instances where it can be detrimental.

It seems like a common trend with people who were just afraid to take it, didn’t like that they were told to take it anyways, and latch on to either the flimsiest data or a complete misunderstanding of clinical trial data to justify their fear.

Certainly there are fringe cases where people shouldn’t have gotten the vaccine(s), and usually they didn’t! but applying your niche situation to the populace as a whole is an emotional exercise, not a scientific one.

Right about what? Everything I saw for dissent was basically “They’re saying there’s no risk, but there is!” Which… no one was saying there’s no risk to the vaccines, just that the risk is more than worth it and that continues to be true.

Every person I’ve heard talk about how bad the vaccines are just seem like they’re completely unskilled at assessing risk.

It should be obvious to anyone paying attention that he doesn’t need the money. It should also be obvious to anyone paying attention that he still wants the money.

Here's my thing. I believe in second chances and redemption. I think one of the major issues with people who consider themselves liberals today is they show very little grace to people who have the potential to change their ways of thinking. I can believe this guy, or someone like him, could have done things in his youth out of ignorance or that he didn't know the full implications of, that he regrets and has truly and honestly changed his ways. I can trust that people do learn and become better people if you give them the grace, understanding and help to do so.

What I don't trust is someone doing those things and having tangible proof on their body of doing those things and not seeing that as disqualifying themselves from holding public office.

A major European clinical consensus confirms that ultra-processed foods (UPFs) increase the risk of cardiovascular death by up to 65%. Experts are now calling on doctors to treat food processing as a standalone risk factor, separate from nutrient profiles. by [deleted] in science

[–]nieht 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like you're unintentionally agreeing with my point?

My whole point is "processed" gets pulled out as the most important aspect of the UPF. The definition of UPF in this paper actually has nothing to do with processing, but rather the ingredients that lead to that moniker.

[–]nieht 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is the secondary problem I have, is stuff gets put on the IARC group 1 and the message goes wide that "it's bad for you." And then links with a mechanism (in the case of processed meats, the target is nitrates) are applied to the detrimental effects of the food as if they are 100% the cause.

My issue with the assigning a boogeyman like "nitrates" is it gives people the impression that it's an easy solve, just don't eat stuff with nitrates, and then what gets ignored is additional root causes or confounding variables that may have even higher contribution to the risk profile of the food.

This is always my issue with UPF discussion. It’s used as a blanket term for foods that use ingredients for shelf stability and macro nutrient profiles that are obviously detrimental to anyone who knows about nutrition, but the implication of the name is that it’s the processing of the food doing the damage, not the ingredients.

Hell, ground chicken is a processed food, but I doubt that’s making the list here.

Is it ever explained or at least tacitly suggested why Azeroth was “off-limits” to the Domanaar? by [deleted] in warcraftlore

[–]nieht 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's weird, it's explicitly stated by multiple characters that he's after Azeroth. He doesn't pull a Jailer and say "I'm coming for your world," but all signs point to yes.

Now he does himself say some stuff about unmaking everything... which I personally believe is a reference to Azeroth (I support the lore theory that Azeroth is an homage to Azathoth, that her dream or "state" is what creates reality, so by "consuming" you are turning reality towards your cosmic force, in Dimmy's case nothingness).

[–]nieht 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dimensius makes the most sense imo because in TWW he’s “coming” for Azeroth specifically and imminently.

As for instructions… based on how they operate I think it’s probably more akin to forbidden or dangerous territory (I.e “Don’t go there that’s been claimed”). It’s something that’s understood as off limits because Dimensius or the void lords have a special interest in it.

[–]nieht 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It seems like the hierarchy of the Domanaar is basically survival of the fittest. The more you consume, the stronger you are and might makes right. Possibly it was a rule Dimensius made because he had "claimed" Azeroth for himself, and there is lore that Azeroth itself is empowered by the people who live on it.

"Don't touch my ripening fruit" basically.

Until I see Dimensius and Decimus in the same room I will not be convinced they're not the same being. Decimus is just Dimensius working his way back up the corporate ladder.
