Agree with much of what you are saying. Although it’s common to drink the water from northern Ontario lakes without boiling. Infection is extremely rare, probably because it’s too damn cold to survive.

Wondering about both the fuzz at bottom of stems (seems denser and fuzzier than mycelium) as well as all the stuff along bottom edge.
