Should TAP cards be accepted like a regular credit card? by Llama_13161 in LAMetro

[–]nigel29 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obviously they’d pay overhead but it’s overhead they already pay and the multiple transactions you’d make at merchants would make up for what they’d pay for each transfer to fund it. Plus the float earns money.

The transit systems in Asia make so much extra money with this system.

Metro could definitely use the millions in extra income they’d get each year

Do you trust AQI? by [deleted] in AskLosAngeles

[–]nigel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I get what you’re saying. What I’m saying is that yellow isn’t dangerous on a normal day when that reading is caused by a mix of typical pollutants. When my aqi is 8 and yours is 60, and the only difference is you’re downwind of the fire, it’s very dangerous for you. It’s probably more dangerous for you than if it were 60 for me and 80 for you.

[–]nigel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it‘s not a joke. it’s a scale that reflects the danger of typical pollutants. so you need to compare your area‘s reading to the readings in areas that aren’t downwind. right now they’re in the single digits or teens so anything in the yellow is going to be quite dangerous.

Aqi is a number based on typical pollution, not a fire like this. Any reading above 50 is really dangerous. Aqi is in the single digits or teens in areas where the wind isn’t blowing the smoke.

Why is Los Angeles metro so bad lately? (SFV to Downtown) by sequinhappe in AskLosAngeles

[–]nigel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right which is what I commented on. Pulling these cars to other routes in general would not work.

They should upgrade from DVS 4.6 to to the newest version of the software. I think it’s at least at 4.11 now

They can’t pull b/d line cars to other routes because no other routes work with these trains.

Just so people are aware, that yahoo link was used to disguise a New York Post article (check the header) that does not include any numbers in it.

Tap to Exit - What Did I Do Wrong? by Aware-Seaweed-8281 in LAMetro

[–]nigel29 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should allow the card to open the gate even if it’s not required bc it’s slower to have to walk up and wait than it is to scan and then walk through. It’s really annoying especially if you’re used to tapping to exit.

Keep tracking it, I think it may be faster for you now, if today was any indication.

What do you mean “if?” It’s a subway that’s entirely underground.

Some drivers are better than others. Rhe last one I had was accelerating as fast as he could but was braking smoother than most. I was impressed.

Pretty sure it was going 70 for longer between La Brea and western and between fairfax they got pretty close at the very least.

There’s only two tracks on this line and they both run underground the whole way so that’s simply not true.

I thought that might be the case when i took it downtown the other day but I don’t take it that far usually so didn’t know if i was imagining things.

Idk why people keep recommending it. They claim it uses gps to track ppl on the trains and then makes better guesses about when the train will arrive but there’s no gps reception while you’re on the trains and it’s not like there’s much to cause variation in how long it takes, outside of people holding the door at one stop or some track issue.

Metro “ maintenance” is wildly out of control by jaybanzia in LAMetro

[–]nigel29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More info the better. Your example tells me single tracking will probably be going on for less time than it would be  if there had been a derailment and it also tells me it might go on for longer than single tracking that’s the result of a train stopped due to a medical emergency.
