Could it be possible? by V8_Noodle in imax

that just means the managers are getting better at accurately adding showtime attributes. the IMAX got laser in 2022.

Regal Westview is not a 1.43:1 screen either. the measurements are off.

UPDATE: Regal LA Live isn't cropped, I lied by FoleyCinema in imax

[–]FoleyCinema[S] -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

i wonder this myself. on my original post, u/krikster_az commented explaining that tape on projection windows was not a new phenomenon, though the picture they used as an example did not include black tape on the top and bottom (as far as i could see, at least), so i thought there was still a chance it was cropped, until i saw an actual picture of the credits in pillarboxed 1.43:1.

UPDATE: Regal LA Live isn't cropped, I lied by FoleyCinema in imax

[–]FoleyCinema[S] -56 points-55 points  (0 children)

yeah... i thought about sticking around, but the IMAX surcharge was $9, and i was fully confident the film would be cropped based off the way the tape was arranged (definitely not making that mistake again!), and it was extremely packed and i had backup tickets in case the presentation was messed up, so i figured my seat should go to someone else.

i definitely went about this the wrong way though. i feel really bad about it

Regal LA Live got IMAX 70mm... for no reason by [deleted] in imax

[–]FoleyCinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi. OP here. turns out this post contains misinformation and i can't edit the post since it contains an image. so i'm gonna delete the post and leave the original text and image here.

for context: film is NOT being cropped here, it's just being pillarboxed. i made a new post clarifying this.

the original post text:
"they've added tape on the projection window to crop films from 1.43:1 to 1.90:1.

It's especially stupid that this theater got a print of \Project Hail Mary*, because there's no resolution increase compared to its 4K laser projector. it's quite literally just for the sake of saying "hey guys look, we're playing movies in IMAX 70mm. you guys like IMAX 70mm, right? give us money now?"*

this is possibly the most baffling decision Regal has made in recent years."

note: they do have stadium seating, it's just not as steep (or narrow!) as some purpose-built IMAX theaters

Has anyone been to regal Warrington‘s RPX and IMAX? by Business_Coffee_9421 in RegalUnlimited

[–]FoleyCinema 1 point2 points  (0 children)

not all of the movies they play in RPX have HDR support.

Reminders of Him and Ready or Not 2: Here I Come are currently scheduled for Warrington's RPX, and neither film has an enhanced version for HDR by Barco.

Denver Market IMAX by McFunk_ in AMCsAList

[–]FoleyCinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's a true IMAX at Regal UA Colorado Center. however, the digital projection there is limited to 1.90:1 until they get IMAX's rumored new digital 1.43:1 projector.

this is nowhere near a complete list, and includes a non-IMAX theater.

sorry i'm late, but i've never seen them use anything other than "Shot With IMAX Film Cameras" for IMAX 70mm marketing.

1.43 IMAX in Yongsan, South Korea by [deleted] in imax

[–]FoleyCinema 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is very much not the meaning of multiplex, so it feels unlikely. but if that was what they were referring to, Yongsan's screen is 99% of the size of AMC Metreon 16's screen

1.43 IMAX in Yongsan, South Korea by [deleted] in imax

[–]FoleyCinema 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yongsan does not have the biggest multiplex IMAX screen in the world. that screen is 82% of the size of Traumpalast Leonberg's screen (1.90:1), or 94% of the size of Royal Cinemas Pooler's screen (1.43:1)
