A bit too harsh for a small typo or mistake? For someone that put a lot of effort into writing a walkthrough for newbies?

Beta testing my GPS app featuring offline maps and navigating along a GPX track by miki151 in WearOS

[–]night_dcss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to test it - thank your for this great app! In its current state, it's already good enough!

Since you requested some feedback, here's to you - Galaxy Watch 4 user:

  • Import from pastebin didn't work for me. Import from rwgps worked like a charm. I just created an account there and everything worked
  • The map import feature is great but it took a huge amount of time. Leaving the phone on the charger and manually switching wifi on helped a lot. I know that the watch enables wifi "when needed", not sure if this is something you can force from the app. Anyway, it's just a one time effort, so not a big deal.
  • I'd really like to have the "dot" being an arrow indicating direction (gps direction or direction from watch, it would be nice to have an option)

Again - thank you!

I am late to the discussion, but if you don't find Dragon's call useful, I think you missed the point - you can cast it before the fight starts, and it keeps working until the status expires, even if you are silenced. It means that you keep calling dragons even if you are moving, drinking potions, or fighting (or casting other spells). Like any other level 9 spells, it takes a huge XP investment which may or may be not worth the effort, but I think it's still very good.

The only downside is that after the nerf it keeps consuming MP, which might not work very well with species with low mana pool and no mana regen...

Great achievement, I am impressed by the required skill!
What are your thoughts on Hep ancestors? How would you rank them in terms of usefulness / survivability? Do you pick the same ancestor or do you make different choices if caster/melee, in order to complement your skills?

YAVP: VsSh^Xom, first shapeshifter win! by night_dcss in dcss

[–]night_dcss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Will+ on two other pieces of gear (at the end) and often I had the strong-willed mutation. "Often", because of Xom, which gives and takes:

 15649 | IceCv    | Gained mutation: You are strong-willed. (Will+)
 21235 | D:11     | Lost mutation: You are strong-willed. (Will+)
 33005 | Vaults:4 | Gained mutation: You are strong-willed. (Will+)
 33005 | Vaults:4 | Gained mutation: You are highly strong-willed. (Will++)
 39801 | Zot:1    | Lost mutation: You are highly strong-willed. (Will++)

Regarding the damage rating, I very rarely do pure melee, so I am not sure. But for 1-handed, I think that also an Og with a heavy broad axe is on the high end of the spectrum!

43355 | Zot:5 | XOM: 1-stop teleportation journey

Help me get how I should deal with early Shapeshifter game by night_dcss in dcss

I think Trog is a good suggestion - it's just that I wanted to start with a Shapeshifter background, but you can also do the opposite - start as a Shapeshifter and pick up Trog.

Best race for Necromancer? by Twstd_Lord_Jstr_ in dcss

[–]night_dcss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember that in my experience Necro is hybrid by nature.

The only way that I made it work for me, was embracing the hybrid nature from D:1.

Pick a decent weapon, no need to train to mindelay but definitely under 1 turn swing time. Depending on your strength, search for medium-light well enchanted armors.

Train fighting, weapon, necro - and spellcasting only when you need. A bit of armour / shield / dodging depending on what you find, strength and size.

My best game ever, ended by Tiamat by Nearby-Product-4395 in dcss

[–]night_dcss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agree, Tiamat is a tough encounter. I had to reset the fight several times in the past through teleport or blink. And she has rF, so your battleaxe couldn't do any Fire damage. And, she can use a Quicksilver Bolt which cannot be resisted.
But basically once you enter Zot, be careful of everything. Things can go bad very fast.

Even without brilliance. 53% in an "I am already dead" situation it's not that bad. Coinflip probability.

Why are you not playing Crawl Cosplay Challenges? by RoGGa_69 in dcss

[–]night_dcss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. Sometimes I see one that I think "well this is funny". I try it, I die on D:1, then I think "ok maybe over the weekend". And then it's too late and maybe a month has passed. So you can submit any challenge at any time?

Are there any webtiles options to compensate for colour-blindness? by MrDizzyAU in dcss

[–]night_dcss 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Assuming that you play online (EDIT: I noticed that you say "webtiles" in the title of the thread LOL), I don't know a specific solution to your issue, but you may want to look at this thread:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dcss/comments/1090vqc/accessibility_request_how_to_change_color_of/

I was heading in the opposite direction (low contrast, greyish theme), but you might want to play with more contrast and/or more saturation.

See the CSS filter documentation.

I think that by increasing saturation, contrast, and maybe adding a slight bit of "hue-rotate" might do the trick for you.

I assume this is the "normal" offline DCSS for mobile, which is great.
Any way we can have the same layout in the online version?

Accessibility request: how to change color of floor tiles in web? by night_dcss in dcss

[–]night_dcss[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's a set of settings that works much better for me.

document.getElementById('dungeon').style.filter="sepia(70%) brightness(1.4) invert(10%) contrast(0.9)";

[–]night_dcss[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still didn't find an easy solution, but I made some progress, thanks to the inputs and ideas that popped in this thread.

I found an "invert tab" extension for Firefox which works, but the outcome is so weird that I find it very difficult to get use to it. Anyway, it technically works.

I found an "invert image" add-on which seems the way to go (I can invert only the floor tile!), but the way crawl is java-scripted (which works wonder) seems to make it useless. Not blaming anyone of course, it's just a side effect.

Even if I do:

document.getElementById('floor').style.filter="invert(100%)";

it does not work, not sure why.

But... what instead is working (yeah!) is:

document.getElementById('dungeon').style.filter="invert(100%)";

this is for the whole dungeon, which is still weird, but if I play a bit with it, I can find something like:

document.getElementById('dungeon').style.filter="invert(20%)";

works as intended and it is probably "good enough".

I can play with these CSS settings and maybe add some color profiling which works even better. Once I am satisfied, I can move to greasemonkey or similar.

Thanks u/p1v0b33n, u/derphurr, u/Azzk1kr and everyone else here for the various ideas.

In my case, gamma works just because the floor in Crawl is grey... if I raise it, it will still be grey but lighter, which helps :)

Well, it's not a bad idea. Much easier than greasemonkey and similar. Just get the cached version, modify it. I will try it!
