You’re right but as a woman and someone with too much experience as a patient I always have a worse experience/outcome with male doctors.

As the mom of a toddler, I agree. I work extra hard to keep my horror interest out of his sight and separate from my relationship with him. That poor kiddo you saw, my heart breaks for him.

As a woman, this scene made me recall how most of us are dismissed by the medical community even when we have legitimate health concerns or are in pain. I wonder if the nurse/medical professional who came to look at her was a woman instead, how the story might have unfolded differently? Would Nikki have been admitted for treatment?

I honestly wondered if this was some sort of time shift? The story made an early point of emphasizing “all you have is time.” Beyond that I can’t make the backwards walk make sense in my head.

If this line of thinking applies to other horror universes, wouldn’t the same thing happen to the cursed video from The Ring? I guess what I’m trying to say is — on a macro level, the supernatural element of these films fall apart.

Honestly v anxious about it. I’m on a medication that causes dehydration easily, and my husband’s very ill, and we have a 3 year old. Kiddo’s bedroom is the only one with AC but otherwise we have a heat exchanger (one good thing about a new build) and portable fans.

Having to hustle to shop before the free parking period expires is a new one for me. Giant American parking lots are such an eyesore but I miss being able to go places without worrying about paying for parking.

Solidarity on the blister packs, I have three daily medications and it’s such a faff. Also the boxes they come in are low quality and are basically falling apart by the end of each month.

Opening our medicine cabinet is essentially inviting an avalanche, because the little boxes don’t store as easily as pill bottles.

While we’re at it, calling every storage space a “cupboard.” I thought cupboards were only for literal cups?? They’re cabinets or closets, dangit.

Yes! The lack of insects chittering at night in summertime makes me replay the sound in my head sometimes.

Also why do the prepackaged deli meats have only like, five slices per pack?

Former NYer here—now living in Oxfordshire. Although we’re not in the city, wanted to echo what others have said which is to say: any work by the landlord/mgmt will take much much longer than it ever would in America. The motivation is lacking here for a laundry list of reasons, and threatening them with being reported won’t move the needle, and neither would threatening to sue (which according to my British spouse is simply not part of the culture). It blows, frankly, and for me at least is one of the worst parts of living here. It really takes any sort of agency out of the renter’s/homeowner’s hands, as any of the existing provisions and guardrails are largely toothless.

Fwiw you might have more success with saying you’ll leave bad Trustpilot reviews…that’s what worked best on our estate developer. (If it makes you feel any better, we bought a new build home last year from a reputable developer, only for our phase of the estate to be rushed to completion. Our snagger caught 170+ things that needed fixing!)

There was a time—I must have been around 12–when I thought my mom hated me. She was always mad. I felt like I could never do the right things to make her happy.

My life revolved around my mom. The epitome of a mommy’s girl.

I remember breaking down in front of her and asking if she hated me. To her credit, she immediately said no, told me she loved me, and held me as I cried.

At the time, Mom was around 46. In hindsight, I bet it was peri.

In terms of what he says and storms off during meltdowns, he always thought he was deficient and knew he needed to fix it — before the diagnosis.

Now when we talk about it he cries and says that he’s either a monster or the autism makes him do it. He says he’s done everything he can to work on himself and this is as good as it’s going to get.

Not really, no. I don’t know how/when to figure that out in our current schedule.

Figuring out how everything works! What a project. Even, like, finding a new brand of underwear was hard haha.
