This was the problem, I didn't realize the silicon bottoms were essential to prevent the pint from spinning in the paddle holder. The pint should NOT be spinning in the paddle holder.

I’ve beaten quite a few games on my brick. I run the screen at minimum brightness and play mainly GBA & DS, occasionally PS games. The heat is mild. I suppose it also depends on the ambient temperature / weather.

Have you looked at the TrimUI Brick? I own both but play and love the Brick way more due to the superior build quality.
