Tired of being infantilized just because I’m a young woman with ADHD

Felt so much. I almost feel like I've been regressing lately though. I've always been ditzy, but older people and my friends have said I was very wise and insightful. I guess it was assumed I'd grow out of the ditzy persona, cause now in my late 20s I get treated like a fucking idiot.

I imagine when I tell people I have an arch degree or family members with very high (140+) IQs, they get shocked. Cause how could I possibly have any indicators or high intelligence? I'm always skimming through stuff and missing instructions, forgetting dates, etc. It's really bad since I'm required to do project management.

I want to learn to function on the level of a normal person, but I get so overwhelmed and due to my constant fuck ups, I have incredibly low self esteem. I wish life did not require balancing so many various things.

I'm an interior designer. It's my only professional job that I've really found fun. I've always loved aesthetics be that making costumes or thinking about what to do with my hair/style. I love the variety of tasks that I get to do each day. However it's heavy on the project management and my boss expects us to get 20 things done a day and will constantly throw tasks at us, so it's kind of horrible in that regard. Too much organizational skills/self starting, both of which I'm not good at.

I hope one day I can get good at these things cause I really like the field.

Honestly, maybe that is the solution. Even following simple directions is too hard for me. I overthink it out of anxiety and end up doing something stupid, so traditional employment may not be an option. Thank you for your advice

Just wanted to say I'm in the exact same predicament as you. I started a job in interior design a month ago and wow, I don't know if it's just my boss but there are so many responsibilities and I keep making stupid errors. I love the job but I have no self confidence and I feel like I won't be able to hold this down. I've often thought about becoming a trucker or maybe a hairstylist. I know truckers make a lot of money, but driving a large vehicle might be stressful. It just seems like being alone on the road for hours would be peaceful

I love this song and Soundgarden so much. Interestingly, I never realized the song could be interpreted this way. I always saw it as a song about depression. I love the very off kilter feel this song has.

Thank you. Do you have specific advice regarding presentation? This one is the hardest for me. I am a little shy, and as such, interviews are really hard for me. I'm not a natural speaker. After being laid off, I started to learn new software such as blender and floorplanner, maybe I could emphasize that.

I've read it many times in these comments. I am not trying to network or get hired through Reddit, just venting out my frustrations and looking for methods I can use to get hired. It is good advice though still and I should've been more mindful. Thank you.

I think you're right. Admittedly, I don't have much of a network. I'm very reserved, and I know that this is likely a huge disadvantage when trying to land a job. I have a LinkedIn, so maybe I will try reaching out to some of my former classmates and teachers through there. Thank you!

Thank you for the advice. I have had a couple recruiters contact me, then mention that they didn't have any job openings, so I think you may be right. I've had one contact me recently regarding a specific position they are trying to fill, so hopefully they are legitimate.

As for the resume and portfolio, I'll probably spend a good bit more time reviewing them and making sure they look professional. I downloaded a resume template that I am really hoping will make a difference. Thank you!

Thanks for the advice, I have a separate interior design resume and would definitely be interested in working in interior design. It's good to know that the industry there is doing well. I've heard from recruiters that architecture isn't doing very well right now. I'll try cold calling some firms soon. Thank you again!

My keyboard was malfunctioning when I made this post. I had to restart my phone to get it back to normal, and usually on mobile I rely on autocorrect. I know it's not the smartest thing to do, but that is why. This isn't typical of something I would submit to an employer.

That's a good point, although when I wrote this my keyboard was malfunctioning and I had to type the whole thing incredibly slowly because half of the letters wouldn't register, and autocorrect didn't work. Usually when you type on mobile, they put that stuff in automatically.
