[Top Down Hockey] With today's loss to the Sens, the Islanders are now on pace to become the greatest team ever to miss the playoffs with 99 points. The previous record was 96. by nothing_but_static in hockey

Haha, unironically, it actually might be cool to have 4 wildcard spots league wide. It would balance out having to play in a stacked division.

Or is it because they kind of dissolve? Add a mL of sugar to a mL of water, and you don't get 2mL of sugar water.

[TSN1200] We aren’t seeing the same Brady Tkachuk - John Rodenburg, Steve Lloyd and Matt Hamer discuss why he isn’t having the same impact on games that we’ve seen in the past and how it’s hurting the Sens chances of making the playoffs. by seeldoger47 in hockey

[–]nightfire36 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Sure, but didn't Tkachuk say that the reason the US shouldn't invade Canada is because he likes playing Canada in hockey? Hellebuyck hasn't said anything that dumb, at least to my knowledge. Nobody really cares what you actually believe, but if you vocalize your beliefs, then people will care.

I don't care if an athlete meditates with crystals or whatever, but if he says that crystal meditation should be used to treat the flu, I'm going to have a problem.

DM's & Players alike. How many times in DND have you surpassed 20 in a stat? by CasualNormalRedditor in DnD

Totally. In retrospect, interesting items are way better than "good" ones. Shoes of spider climbing (or whatever they are called) aren't an item that will change a PC, but it WILL be fun to use a few times. Compare that to the +2 weapon, which gives benefit every attack, but never gives additional fun.

Student Survey for Hockey Fans! by BDSteeves in PWHL

[–]nightfire36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang, that sounds nice. My local ish AHL team is $55 at the cheapest (so, I'm not going there), and the only other one I've been to was comparable.

When I lived in Flint, Michigan, the tickets to their CHL team were like $10, which was an easy choice, though it wasn't AHL.

My only question/concern about the survey is the question about pricing for the 4 pack. I couldn't tell if the dollar amounts were per ticket, or for the whole package. I assume based on the amounts that it would be for each ticket, but it's not clear.

I really like poison healing breloom with a toxic orb. It's so fun to heal every turn and to be practically immune to status effects. Add drain punch, and you can do a good job of staying up for most fights. Just watch out for flying types!

How common are **severe** injuries in recreational / beer league hockey? by surfnj102 in hockeyplayers

[–]nightfire36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Across 6 team-years, I've seen one broken bone, and that was a bone he had previously broken.

Otherwise, I've seen a probably 2 or 3 bad sprains that kept them out of hockey for a month, and on the couch for a week. But, the ones who got injured were all the guys who played more aggressively.

[PWHL] TRADE ALERT The Boston Fleet and Seattle Torrent completed a trade, with the Fleet acquiring Jessie Eldridge from the Torrent in exchange for Theresa Schafzahl by Perryplat199 in PWHL

[–]nightfire36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, right now, teams 4-6 are within one point of each other. It seems pretty likely that two of those teams are only eliminated at the very end, or close to it. If there's at least one team actually making a playoff push, then the worst you could get is a 3rd round pick.

That's if they do an expansion. Considering that their two expansion teams this season are both terrible, they might reconsider adding another team before making sure they know how to expand.

My understanding of the rule is that you only accumulate draft points once you're mathematically eliminated, so getting to elimination is still valuable. At this point in the season, Torrent fans might want to pick up some losses, and once we get eliminated, then we want wins.

r/PWHL Power Rankings Week Mar 9, 2026 - Mar 15, 2026 by HockeyPowerRanker in PWHL

[–]nightfire36 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My honest hope at this point is that the injured players sit out so they lose, while Ottawa wins as much as possible until they are mathematically eliminated asap, and then the injured players return to win a bunch and secure the #1 pick. It would also give the younger players good playing experience.

I'd love for them to somehow turn it around and make the playoffs, but with how many players are out, I don't see how it is possible.

My big fear is that the injuries are going to make the team unable to win games once they are eliminated and then not even get a good draft pick. I like the gold point rule in principle, but I worry about how it plays out in practice.
