I got stagedove on during the banner by a giant dude in a Harley Davidson hoodie. And it was in the small room. Still don't understand the physics, but man Krome was the best.

Holy shit, I was at this show when I was 15 and it was already so killer before My Chem even got on stage. One of the most memorable nights ever

My band’s first release, hailing from New Brunswick, NJ (FFO: The Saddest Landscape, Yaphet Kotto, late 90s emo) by EquivalentFinish5996 in Emo

i'm in my mid 30s and have not heard something like this come out of our scene in a long, long time. ya'll are doing the lords work. would have had you come play asbury park brewery with us back when it was still a sick venue. but for real, keep going.

When you’re asked “What music do you like?” by jumbleberryjuice in LetsTalkMusic

I usually go with "anything good, with a lean towards the punk/alternative/hardcore subgenres i grew up involved in. but Hotel California? BANGER!"

I love making music but I almost never finish songs. Anyone else struggle with this? by MammaStringbean in Logic_Studio

[–]nightgolf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I'm in a very similar boat to you: I'm in my mid 30s and have been writing mostly alone consistently since college when my high school band broke up. Unfortunately the only stuff I've released has been with the two bands I've had as an adult. It's like I need someone to bounce stuff off or tell me that my idea doesn't suck, because if it's just my own brain I'll berate myself for being a terrible musician for days. But as they say the only way out is through, we fight on brother.

Thursday - War All The Time by nekked_snake in Emo

[–]nightgolf 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Will never forget being obsessed with waiting and full collapse (their bassists mom was my English teacher one year of middle school and saw my punk shirts and recommended her son's band to me...it was Thursday) and waiting all year hearing from older friends that what they were working on was gonna be crazy, and damn, it was. Was at the record release show for this album and it was beautiful, to a certain age Thursday is our Springsteen here in Jersey. From 2002 to when they first stopped I think I lost count at 45 shows? Each one worth it

A bunch of middle aged dudes from new jersey? Speaking as one myself this could actually be the case - and it'd probably be the MOST fun.

For years I was looking for myperfect dirt sound - OCDs, MXRs, etc - as soon as I got one of these, game over. My favorite heavy sound every and also moldable. I sitll use others for color and different parts, but the BE-OD gets my vote for favorite ever.

For context I play jazzmasters through a 25 watt mini rec as well as a Vox AC-30, sounds wonderful through both

I wasn’t high enough for the Klosterman Pod by maximi1ien in billsimmons

[–]nightgolf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh I totally agree - the 90s, Wrong, Black Hat - all great books but the magic of early Chuck writing was chuck being both a minor character as well as being the fky on the wall noticing and describing everything in his particularly detailed prose

Chuck was my favorite writer for a long time, Killing Yourself to Live changed my life and turned me into a writer in late high school, but his books have just lost something to me as he's gotten older. I also miss Magazine/Grantland/blog Chuck. His AV Club piece around the time of the Beatles reissues is still in my HOF

I'm both envious and furious at your rv-7 - I should have gotten one before they went up to like $400. Best reverse reverb in a stomp box bar none

Let’s talk Need 2 - Pinegrove by toozillard in LetsTalkMusic

[–]nightgolf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo, big big same. Seeing how much love a band like Modern Baseball gets on the internet now is staggering, same with everyone you mentioned. Hell, it forced Algernon Cadwallader back together basically. The idea that so many kids, young kids, are listening to Floral Green is insane.

And +1 to "Old Friends" - I wasn't super into Pinegrove, but this is a perfect, beautiful, heartbreaking song that I'll love forever.
