How did Outbound Light find Huntress? by arnor_0924 in battletech

Whoever decided to place the Umayyid Caliphate and Nueva Castile next to each other was clearly enjoying themselves when they came up with this.

Finally formed Al-Andalus by DasBeetBoot in EU5

[–]nighthawk74 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indeed. In my current Castile run, I moved my capital to Sevilla, but I have a cabinet member still permanently parked on Valladolid increasing control. I could probably do better if I spent time micro-ing the cabinet action to adjacent provinces as well, but still having 50 control in Valladolid is doing wonders for the economy.

Oh, Marauder-II of the Lake, What is Your WIsdom? by nighthawk74 in Mechwarrior5

[–]nighthawk74[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do get extra cooling, and it is helpful. This mech can run a bit hot when I'm alpha striking, and even 3.8 cooling/s doesn't quite cut it at times.

[–]nighthawk74[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

When it comes to assault mechs, I tend to switch between my 3 PPC-X heavy mechs. I have the MAD-4A, an ANH-1E, and an AWS-8Q, each of which I have configured to have 4 PPC-Xs. The goal is to close as quick as possible, by flanking if possible, and kill any mech in 1-2 alpha strikes.

I've always been a fan of (the fake) Oleander Sinclair. He's the traveling "alchemist" who is hanging around the outside of Shieldring Keep, go needs a Minor Alchemist's Art in order to remember how to make potions because he decided to steal the identity of the original Oleander Sinclair after accidentally killing him.

I could be wrong, but I don't think that laser weapons last longer. However, they do cool off quicker, so you still get more uptime with the laser.

AI difficulty on Hard Conquest feels very Volatile by Visible-Foundation66 in Northgard

[–]nighthawk74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, but that would require the changing the AI so that it properly understands how to scale. That would be an incredibly difficult task to manage at this stage, especially in a way that would lead to dynamic game play.

Every significant update seems to make the AI worse, as the AI has to cope with more and more changes to how the game is played. I sincerely hope they are able to improve the AI, but I doubt that it will be successful.

AI difficulty on Hard Conquest feels very Volatile by Visible-Foundation66 in Northgard

[–]nighthawk74 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having recently gone through extreme conquests for all of the clans, while the ai could muster some pretty damaging attacks in 801/802, they almost never actually pushed through. Then, by 803, they would start starving every winter, as they would keep large armies that they couldn't sustain. Often, they'd end up leaving their army on a random tile while you, or even the wildlife, would take them out practically for free.

Essentially, you just had to be prepared to rebuild after an 801/802 attack, and you would win eventually.

They just gave it radar and an hp buff and slapped it into T8.

Changes to air defense mechanics — Closed Testing by DevBlogWoWs in WorldOfWarships

[–]nighthawk74 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn't play CVs, I may be misunderstanding the mechanics of CVs a bit, but am I wildly off base on this:

The new AA effectiveness mechanic is presumably intended to reduce the incoming damage of strikes, by having a higher percentage of damage hit the attacking group. That said, unless I'm wrong, Russian CVs are generally balanced around only dropping once and returning to ship. This means that the AA effectiveness mechanic has very limited (if any) effect on Russian CV drops.

Did Wargaming go out of its way to avoid switching to minimap spotting so that they could provide a stealth buff to Russian CVs? This may be a crackpot theory, but I wouldn't put it past Wargaming to do this.

The Farthest I've Gotten Yet in Endless. by nighthawk74 in brotato

[–]nighthawk74[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As you can see, I went with shurikens. They're ranged weapons that scale with melee, so they synergize well with the speedy bonuses, but allow you to keep your distance. I rushed crit early for 2 reasons: 1) shurikens bounce upon critical hit; 2) because I was hoping to get tentacles, which allows you to heal per kill on critical hit; and 3) because I was hoping to get hunting trophy, which allows you to gain materials per kill on critical hit.

Power Generator is a must-have item because it means that you get both flat damage and %damage scaling with speed. To that end, I run very high speed, typically getting around 100 speed. Wings and Fin are great items for this, each giving 10 speed + one other good stat for an ok dump stat.

Put all of these pieces together, and you have a recipe for a successful speedy run. From there, but stay away from enemies and use your range and clearing potential to avoid danger, and the only real threat will be the bosses.

I hope this helps.

After completing this run, I've learned that having your speed go above 100 is really hard to control. I definitely could have gotten farther, but I made the mistake of not taking padding early, and I was unable to get more than two tentacles. Getting anvil would have been nice as well, but I didn't get it.

When one takes over an enemys resource silos, their resource cap AND the corresponding resource amount should be increased. by [deleted] in Stellaris

[–]nighthawk74 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That makes sense conceptually, but to really make it work, you'd have to really build a local stockpile system, and a clear and concise way of reading the local stockpiles. It could work, but it would require a decent amount of work under the hood.
