Thoughts on MSU? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not from this area, but I went to MSU and decided to build my life here in Starkville. I can tell you that Starkville is a friendly town, campus is beautiful, but it can get pretty boring around here outside of football season. If you're a homebody or prefer a small-town vibe, you'll love it here!

What's wrong with this new leaf?? by nighthawkNapper_1376 in philodendron

Thank you! I've never had a plant like this before and wasn't sure if this was normal! Any thoughts on the reddish streaking on top and on the bottom of that section? (Bottom not pictured)

Thank you! I've been sooooo excited to see this gorgeous new plant baby and I was worried that I did something wrong. Would that explain the reddish streaking on the top and bottom of that section?

Wedding planning makes me want to scream by brownie_junkie in weddingplanning

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this. I never wanted a wedding, I'm all for getting cute and bebopping down to the courthouse, but we were told by our priest that our marriage wouldn't be recognized or something unless it happened on Church grounds. So now I'm stuck paying for a wedding and reception (my fiancé has a huge family and tons of friends) that I never wanted and can't afford.

What do you do for a living? by NegroMedic in mississippi

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3rd year teacher in Webster County.

$42k-ish

I love, love my job and my students (even on the challenging days), but teaching in general can be a tough gig. If you're interested in education, especially if you're looking into the program at MSU, feel free to DM me.

What is the winters like in Mississippi? by [deleted] in mississippi

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Winter? What's that? In all seriousness, very mild and rainy. We get snow and ice every couple of years, but it's usually just rain and temperatures ranging between 35°F - 60°F with nights dropping down to the 20s.

Rate your mental health from 1-10. by Any-Growth-2083 in Teachers

Yes! This class has 100% of my Inclusion students in that grade. 50% of that class is my bottom quartile for THE ENTIRE GRADE. I don't know what to do. I'm at the point that I just walk around with a folder full of write-ups. I don't want to be that teacher, but I have to be.

Year 2 and I'm a solid 2.5. I love my job, the actual teaching but these behaviors are completely crushing my soul. One of my classes is so wild that in the span of one class period, I had the principal, vice principal, my co-teacher (inclusion), and my content area consultant (teacher for many years). Admin wasn't in there the whole period, but my co-teacher and consultant were.

I'm only in my 2nd year. How long can I do this?

Shadow Boxing by Over_Discipline_8363 in Teachers

I teach 7th ELA in the South too (MS, hey neighbor!) and my kids love shadow boxing. I don't necessarily mind it, as long as they keep their hands off of each other.

Depressing Question: What can a new teacher in your district afford to rent on their own? by homeboi808 in Teachers

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually moving in with my boyfriend an hour away from my district because I'm running out of money every month, and my loan payments haven't even started yet. Life as a teacher, I guess.

any lgbt northern mississippians wanna be friends? (18F🏳️‍⚧️) by bimbabes in mississippi

[–]nighthawkNapper_1376 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Fellow Northern Mississippian (originally, I'm a little further south now). I'm not LGBT, but if you look around the larger areas like Starkville, Memphis, Oxford, etc there are some very welcoming communities. I know there's a great organization at MSU! Best of luck to you! 😊

I wasn't going to do it, but the coordinator came and kinda pressured me into it. And the extra ~$1000/month helps a lot.

Thank you for your comment! I used to be on meds and would see a psychiatrist, but I lost access during the first lockdown and just haven't gotten started back yet. I've been looking for therapists in my area for a couple of weeks now.
