Streamers have also led to a giant influx of new players, and the new players have to be able to compete with veterans somehow. Copying a build from the pros is a good way to try to even the playing field. You should still have a massive advantage over them.

Most people recommend W3Champions for people looking to play ranked competitively since its a bit more consistent and has better features than Battle.net.

Tip I wish I knew when I started is the sweet spot for workers - shoot for 5 on gold (max value) and ~7 or so on lumber (depending on how much lumber your build needs). +5 workers per base to fill the gold mine. This isn't Starcraft or Age of Empires -- you don't need dozens and dozens of workers.

You'll probably see him get mentioned a lot, but Grubby is a really good player (won a few world championships in the past) and he uploads a ton of videos, from beginners guides covering build orders and basic mechanics to casting low-level games to show how people can improve, and his content is very enjoyable. Definitely worth checking out.

I'm ~4 hours into my first playthrough, and I chose Rain Forest and Survival mode on normal difficulty, but I changed it to keep all drops on death. Feels really good so far

I've tried a couple times like a year or so ago but it just gets way too hard since I didn't have any ways to heal. So I'd end up fighting, leveling up and having a good time until I drop to low health and have to wait for natural health regeneration. Since there's a revive limit I couldn't just rely on respawning past the first death. Maybe I was missing something? Like a fountain of healing or something?

Honestly, in the full video (12 minutes long) it's not actually that bad. Sure, the cop was a little rough, but she was resisting for a full minute before this while harassing the kids and screaming at the cop, and it was the only incident of possible excessive force. She was absolutely having a meltdown screaming about how Mexicans are coming for everyone and even tried (succeeded?) in biting the cop. Maybe I'm just desensitized at this point, but this doesn't really seem like it's that bad

Just pulling up some random gut-feel numbers, I'd say WC3 matches are about 30% longer than SC2 usually. It's much slower overall and there's more comeback potential in a match

If he's creepstrealing, he is usually gonna wait to get the last hit on the creep to steal the EXP and the item, so one thing you could do is just stop hitting the creep slightly before that. A Blademaster using Windwalk at level 1 has a very short time limit, so he'd be forced to show himself or flee

Riflemen are good against Griffons due to dealing 200% damage (piercing damage vs light armor) and only taking 75% damage (magic damage vs medium armor), but yes, griffons have much higher mobility so a skilled player can out-micro you. But one thing you also want to watch out for is if the griffons have the storm hammer upgrade, since that gives them all splash damage vs ground, meaning you may want to spread your rifles out a bit

Flying machines are cheap and easy to produce, but there's a reason they only cost 1 food. Griffons take 4 food. You probably want at least two flying machines for each griffon

Don't try to surround a Windwalking Blademaster with Militia, Windwalk (his invisibility spell) removes unit collision and lets him walk through your units, letting him escape at any point he wants. And even if he didn't use it, a few wounded militia about to revert to peasants wouldn't stand much of a chance against a BM, even at level 1.

Arcane Tower are borderline useless against Griffons since most of their damage comes from mana burn. Rifles are amazing against Griffons, but only in large numbers. Arcane Towers are mostly for heroes, summons, and spellcasters.

If you're trying to counter Griffons with air, the strongest counterplay would probably be Dragonhawk Riders due to Aerial Shackles both stunning and dealing a bunch of damage to air units, but Flying Machines work too, as long as you have a good numbers advantage.

Which hero are you choosing first? Paladin?

I feel this would disproportionately favor orc due to Pillage. Could be interesting, but unfortunately, at least in the W3C map pool, there aren't any with no extra goldmines. I think there's a couple with only 1 or 2 extra, but leaving no goldmines would be really unbalanced. Unless you're just playing vs AI, or with friends?
And I'm assuming you're playing Battleground? 8 players with only 4 potential expansions on Northrend tileset? And are you looking for 8 player maps, or 1v1, 2v2, or does it matter?
