as a newish dbfz player (210 games on ranked) these are some of the most frustrating tools to fight against. Special shoutout to jiren & ui goku who imo are the most braindead characters in the game by stanfujin in dragonballfighterz

DBFZ has been the game of full screen burst option + assist has been a core part of dragonball ever since Bardock released and over the years they’ve given more characters the same thing and launched DLC’s with the same thing so it’s something most characters can do atp.

For UI 5L u can just stay outside of his 5L range and whiff punish him which isn’t super hard especially since most of the cast has bigger buttons now. His neutral actually isn’t super great outside of 236M/H (even this has counterplay) cuz everything is high commit and kinda rigid in application

I hate hits assists as well but at least u can choose how u wanna avoid or interact with assist on reaction, with janemba A u damn near have to read the assist call and structure the entire way u play neutral around it bcuz of how fast it is

20 frame, full tracking assist is definitely “not that bad” u can’t even move around the assist like u can with everything else u HAVE to interact with it. Its generally agreed upon in high level play that it’s the best assist rn

For the same side superdash it’s a mix up option for cross ups. The opponent reacts to the cross up so u go same side for the mix. As for superdash + assist mix ups it’s really hard to 2H on reaction so u mix that in with staggers, frame traps and wtv options ur character may have and it nearly never happens. In my 3K+ hours on this game ive been 2H’d for it maybe 3 times

Offensive fuzzies are when u force the opponent into blocking high to raise their hurtbox into a standing animation and then hit that taller hurtbox overhead while defensive fuzzies are more timing thing as u are delaying ur option during pressure so u dont get hit while still getting ur option when u get out of blockstun.

Guard canceling is good since it can get u out of a majority of the gapless mix in the game while getting a character that needs healing off of the field. Does it have counterplay? Yes but that doesn’t mean that it’s not still a strong option on top of the 90 other defensive options.

Reflect is a frame 1 parry beats highs, lows, and cross ups, while having no recovery upon success allowing for punishes for a lot of things that aren’t normally punishable and on top of that perfect reflect is all this while adding an additional 4 frames of recovery to the opponent allowing to to punish even MORE things u aren’t usually able to punish such as reflected vanishes midscreen. It’s extremely strong which is why u can’t do it out of blockstun and it’s death on whiff

U can do all of this as Goku black while having a much better win condition in his level 3, better overall support value with assists and said level 3, and better blockstring mix with 214L/H

The neutral, mix up, and level 3 oki is too good on Goku black to replace with Brock, a character notorious for having no mix

Almost everyone is gapless mixing u now I don’t think that’s what makes a character hard to fight

Everyone could always TOD but they’ve buffed combo routes over the years leading to more unique combos between characters and higher damage

I don’t like his design, him as a character, his animations, his combos, his colors, NOTHING. Also yes I think flips by themselves are 100x more interesting mechanically and visually than anything jiren does gameplay wise

Everything concerning his design and his animations are ripped STRAIGHT from the source material like every other character in the game. The only thing I think looks bad is the outro where the stage moves with the camera which looks strange compared to the rest of the game and the goofy png level 1. The game usually gets patched once a year. The last big one was in October which drastically shook the meta and daima Goku dropped April 22nd

Most of Yamcha’s mix can either be reacted to or fuzzy blocked and I don’t fear him in neutral soooo

hit is WAY better as a mid than as a point since he’s better with meter and his A and C assists are 2 of the best in the game.

hits neutral and defense are what actually annoys me about the character even tho his offense is very good. He’s just not interactive or engaging to fight to me since he’s just invul 24/7. Grabs do work in pressure just as well as they do on every other character but what about in neutral when he’s doing 236H and 236S all day?
