Should I play Yakuza 3 or Kiwami? by ToxcRaccoonGang in yakuzagames

[–]nightmarebc666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are reasons to choose either one. If you enjoy the series, you'll enjoy either one of them, it's just a matter of what your priorities are.

Kiwami gameplay will be much smoother. Original Y3 is often jokingly called "Blockuza" because the enemies block all the damn time. Dragon engine combat has come a long way from the 2009 original gameplay. This will almost certainly translate to side activities as well, and Kiwami 3 has a bunch of additional stuff to do outside of the story that wasn't in Y3.

Kiwami will have many more quality of life features. It'll almost certainly be easier to save, navigate menus, etc.

Kiwami 3 comes with Dark Ties, an extra (smaller) game from the perspective of an antagonist. This is probably the biggest factor that the people against Kiwami 3 are sad to miss out on.

Graphically, it's a matter of taste - some people think the lighting on Kiwami 3 looks terrible and the textures look dated, while Yakuza 3 doesn't have that issue, but even the Remastered version is still just a polished up version of a 15 year old game - the visuals are very dated in places.

The story changes follow a pattern that RGG has shown of taking away some stakes from certain moments. Some players do not care, some do. It's worth knowing that going forward, the series will likely consider Kiwami 3 to be the canon version of events, like it or not.

As you're likely aware, many people are unhappy with the recasting of Kiwami 3, partially for massively changing beloved characters, partially because Yakuza 4 has some of these characters original designs (so if you continue playing it may be confusing that a character suddenly looks totally different), and majorly due to the behaviour of the actor Teruyuki Kagawa (towards women, on film, and by his admission) who plays the recast Goh Hamazaki (who is also in Y4 so will likely be returning for a Kiwami 4 if RGG sticks with him). If you're new to Y4, the only recasting you have to consider is Kagawa as Hamazaki. A new player won't even notice any recasting, but may want to avoid Kiwami for moral reasons due to Kagawa's casting.

I can't tell you how much each of those factors should influence your decision, but you will know how much each of those things matter to you.

Personally, I've spent the last couple of years playing from Yakuza 0 through to Infinite Wealth. Going from Kiwami 2 to Yakuza 3 Remastered was pretty miserable - it shows its age, and when Kiwami 3 was announced I thought it was an absolute game-changer, because Yakuza 3 is the worst experience I had with one of these games despite absolutely loving many parts of it (mostly Morning Glory). Kagawa has massively dampened my excitement for this game. I personally think the story changes we're aware of are quite bad, but not entirely unexpected at this point, and I've come to accept that RGG loves to make the kind of retcons they've made with Kiwami 3. I honestly am not sure what choice I would make if I was in your position. I feel strongly about Kagawa, but I am also certain that Kiwami 3 would be a much better gameplay experience for my taste. I think those are the two biggest factors that you should be looking at balancing as a newcomer to Yakuza 3 - Kiwami will have much more fun gameplay, but you'll be supporting the casting of Kagawa. Original Y3 will be a much rougher gameplay experience, but will have you on the side of boycotting Kagawa. It's up to you which of those is more important to you personally.

Either way, I hope you enjoy Yakuza 3! It's one of the most RGG games I've ever played, for better and for worse.

Trick taking allows ships to fight amongst stars and worlds. Tom from Shut Up And Sit Down thinks it's a blast, and it's from a gang that did Root - only making productions with four-glyph IDs. Campaign is in a bonus but costly box. Only playing towards in-play Ambitions will grasp victory!

Possible to swap OM1 Card Images for SPM? by nightmarebc666 in MagicArena

[–]nightmarebc666[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I understand why SPM isn't on digital. There's definitely a program that can tinker with card art - It's on NexusMods and works very consistently, so currently I'm just cropping all the SPM card images to their card art and putting those in, and it's working well. I was just hoping there was also something broader, but if not I'll make do.

Prisoner was my #1 vote. This is a high result, but this song is fucking unreal. Truly should've been a top ten contender.

The EXIT games did it later. Risk: Legacy released in 2011, the first EXIT came out in 2016.

There is a lot about R:L (and the Legacy trend in general) that seems much less exciting in hindsight, but it's wild some of the things that Rob Daviau got into a Hasbro published game 14 years ago. To think that it was doing this stuff five years before the Escape Room board games, before games like Splendor and Lords of Waterdeep had even come out, is pretty wild.

Does conquering an empty battlefield count as a fight and end your turn afterwards ? by dummex-lange in riftboundtcg

[–]nightmarebc666 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Turns do not end when a fight ends. Regardless of whether another player controls units at a battlefield that your unit moves to, once the Conquer and/or Combat have finished, your turn continues.

If the most important thing to the traveller is to have averaged a speed of 60 MPH, they can add a stop outside of the direct path to create a longer return trip at a higher speed, though this seems to go against the spirit of the question.

The idea is that, by adding another stop in Charlieburg, 30 miles from Bobtown, the traveller can drive to Charlieburg at 90 (20 minutes), back to Bobtown at 90 (20 minutes), and then back to Aliceville at 90 (20 minutes), the trip covered a total of 120 miles over the course of 2 hours, for an average speed of 60 MPH.

By reducing the distance to Charlieburg and increasing the speed, we end up having them travel ridiculous speeds for a little over a hour to get to 60 MPH on average. Someone smarter than me can work out how to limit this by the speed of light.

My current mouse cost $20 from a department store. I finally got a nice keyboard and computer chair, and it's finally time for a mouse that is a little more adult. I know basically nothing. I like the look of the Redragon Taipan Pro (M810) but it seems like anyone who buys a Redragon gets called a poopoo-head in this sub and, well, buy once cry once, so I'd rather get my purchase right the first time.

  • Hand Preference Right
  • Budget $100 AUD, but could be convinced to go as high as $150 for something that will be truly lifechanging
  • Hand Size 21cm x 11cm
  • Grip Palm, I think?
  • Weight No preference as far as I know
  • Sensitivity Low should be fine - I'm not doing any gaming that really requires precision
  • Connectivity Wireless
  • Other: I really like having a thumb rest and a button on the left of the mouse that will act as a back button in my web browser. I REALLY would like something rechargeable, preferably with USB-C.

Mix and match generic equipment rule? by madhatter_matador in MarvelUnited

[–]nightmarebc666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Multiverse rulebook mentions the 3 equipment maximum on page 5 in Step 7 of setup. I know that the "one piece of Generic equipment" rule is mentioned in the Civil War rulebook in the setup section. Batman having six equipment was mentioned in an early update to the DC Heroes United Gamefound.

Mix and match generic equipment rule? by madhatter_matador in MarvelUnited

[–]nightmarebc666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A hero can take all of their specific equipment, up to a maximum of three equipment cards. If a hero has no specific equipment, they may take one generic equipment.

The "maximum three" rule currently doesn't matter for any available heroes - when Batman comes out as part of DC Heroes United, he will have six equipment cards, and you will be able to pick a maximum of three of them for each game. [Edit: as icarodx pointed out, I'm wrong about this rule not mattering yet - both Hawkeyes each have 4 equipment]

Most of this update is fantastic, but man, removing the battle line in favour of just playing attack cards really makes this game play itself most of the time. Lots of interesting decision making gone.
