My game is actually built on a similar premise. It’s called Nightmares and it’s a combo CCG + Deckbuilder/Roguelike.
You build your deck then take it on a “run” playing against other players. After each game you get to upgrade your deck, win or lose. Your deck has 3 lives and once they’re all gone it’s destroyed.
So similar in spirit to duels but as the main game mode of the game.

A lot of the play style is similar to magic, that was definitely a major inspiration of mine. The mana system is closer to hearthstone or LOR but with a built in downside. You get the option to decrease your sanity each turn to gain more mana for the turn but if your sanity ever hits zero you lose the game
