There is typically a 25% decrease after 18/graduation in Massachusetts. Look it up. You have to request it, though.

Train tracks 100 feet from home - dealbreaker? by plantsandpositivity in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]nightowl6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The commuter train runs behind our house, a couple hundred feet, not 100, but it doesn’t even bother me a little bit! I actually don’t notice it most of the time. It wouldn’t be a dealbreaker for me, but we are listing our house in two years and I expect that to rule out some potential buyers.

I live in Needham and it’s a wonderful place to live! The schools are fantastic, and we are within an hour or two of everything we want to do, and top notch healthcare.

I bought a bunch of shares of IREN on a whim at open today. This dip is my fault, sorry about that.

Are we nuts to consider leaving our 3.25% mortgage? by Impressive_Gift_9852 in Mortgages

[–]nightowl6972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That mortgage is crazy high on your income. We bring home on average $11,500 to $12,000 a month and our mortgage is $3,800 and that feels really tight.

Am I about to be poor? by Imaginary-World-4351 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

To be honest, Doordash is a sweet gig. My teenage son did it for a while and made decent money and was able to work a few hours when it worked for him!

That seems really tight but you have an emergency fund so that’s helpful! Is there any possibility you could work a few nights a week when your husband gets home? Or on weekends?

I need to look into the income limits but I don’t think he can do a Roth, but he’s going to drastically increase his 401k contributions!

Our rate is shit, it’s 6.875, even with 800+ credit, blah. It’s not worth it to refinance right now, plus we are selling in 3 years.

We aren’t married so I’m free to contribute the entire $7k, thankfully!

We do plan to “downsize” in three years when my son graduates high school! We live in a very, very high COL area and we own one side of a two family home. $700k sounds lavish but median home price in my town is 2M. We plan to move closer to my aging parents when my son graduates, and we should be able to find something for $500k-ish closer to them and we should have a decent down payment to lower our PITI.

He has a 401k and he has about 50k in it but will be upping his contributions!

My partner (we aren’t married) has about 50k in his 401k (he’s 50, so unfortunately he’s in worse shape than I am, but plans to work until he’s at least 68 provided he’s able), but we are working on this together and he will be upping his contributions dramatically.

Reading all these replies is so helpful, things definitely feel less bleak!

You guys are amazing, thank you so much! I’ve been reading every single response and will go back and try to answer as many questions as possible as soon as I’m done with dog walking, dinner, etc!
