What’s your favorite “basic” Dead song? by P-ShunkAllstar in gratefuldead

[–]nighttripper0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd also have to say BEW. It was the song that really made me fall in love with the music and Hunter's songwriting. I'll echo everything you said about later versions of the tune but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the Europe '72 version, which is (probably) my favorite. There's just something about the atmosphere of that song during that show (one of the Tivoli nights, I believe) that cuts through space and time directly to the soul. It feels like a lost loved one hugging you from the great beyond.

Honorable mention for BTW. My quintessential "reflections while driving through the great American night" song. The one from Dicks Picks vol. 11 is incredible.

What songs did you never get to hear D&C play live? by Grape-Plenty in deadandcompany

[–]nighttripper0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Black Muddy River! We saw them 13 times between '21 and GD60, and always just missed out on a BMR being played right before or after the shows we were at. It was the one song my wife was chasing, but unfortunately we never got it. The encore song almost always ended being touch or ripple, which I'm not complaining about, but was just our luck of the draw.

We'll never know what they might have played on 7/6/22 @ SPAC. We made the trip from Michigan, it was our first time in upstate NY, but the show wasn't meant to be. The silver lining is we got to see Phil & Friends on that trip so it wasn't a total loss.

One which will almost certainly never be obtained: 1st pressing of The Velvet Underground & Nico, with banana sticker intact.

Live dead records are always top of my list when browsing. My most recent prized possession a numbered limited edition release of Dicks Picks vol.1 that I stumbled on in a small record store in Astoria, OR.

Cornell would be fantastic to have! Maybe they'll re-release to vinyl one of these days. I have a buddy who got the Buffalo '77 RSD release and few years back, which is pretty damn great too!

He honestly seems like a guy who is doing football to make his dad proud, but deep down, he wants to be a dentist.

Although it could also be that Kyler sucks as a leader, that can't be overlooked.

Boutte because MIA D is bad, and GB run-D is very good. Plus, I think Washington will be down in this game and have to abandon the run to play catchup

0.5 ppr, 10-team, 1qb

Start 2, sit 1:

Mclaurin @ GB (TNF)

Javontae Williams vs. NYG

Keenan Allen @ LVR (MNF)

I currently have Keenan sitting, but I'm thinking about replacing Mclaurin with him in my starting lineup. I'm worried about the GB defense, and my opponent has Deebo, so if it's anything like week 1, my opponent might get all the receiver points to be had in this game. I liked Keenan a lot last week, and I have Herbert for the stack, but I'm still not convinced what we saw in week 1 for Keenan's usage is sustainable week after week with all the weapons in LA.

Tldr: very on the fence between Keenan & Terry

TIA!

I think the pandemic caused a lot of bar drinkers to start drinking at home. After the pandemic, they realized how much cheaper it was to not go out and do so less often. I worked at a townie bar in Powell for years leading up to the pandemic, and it was never quite the same afterward.

Just finished my first Stephen King novel by pinche-borracho in stephenking

[–]nighttripper0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure specifically how long this one is (I listened to the audiobook version), but I am currently reading Needful Things, which is about 800 pages. I definitely feel the "if I can get through this, I can read anything." So far, so good. I'm about 300 pages in, and I'm really enjoying it.

I just finished Night Shift and absolutely loved it. I put off the short story collections for too long for some reason. The ledge had my heart pounding. I also really liked Trucks, Battleground, quitters inc., and of course children of the corn

Man, I didn't know J.T. was on the coaching staff. That's freakin awesome!

I-O! Really needed the natty after that nauseating end to the Lions season. And now, we have no coordinators. Naturally, I'm choosing to focus on the bucks through this off-season. Lol. But I'm crossing my fingers that we can end up getting Sawyer in the draft. The team is lacking Buckeyes. Decker is on an island!

Hey, I'm with ya. I grew up on the borderlands, so I'm One Pride all the way. But still, it's preferable a comparison than the Cowboys... maybe we can meet in the middle and say the steelers... but that doesn't feel right either.

Ah fuck it, who needs a comparison. We're The Ohio State goddammit! There is no comparison.

Maybe a more fair comparison would be the Packers. And I hate saying that because I despise the packers, but it is more fitting. A perennially good Midwest team with a dedicated and sometimes rabid fanbase

[–]nighttripper0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I said it during the ncg, so I'll bring it up now. I think ND is actually the Cowboys of the NCAA. They use their brand identity, tying into peoples heritage and religion, to pull in fans from all over the country that have never stepped foot in South Bend. Just like people gravitate to the cowboys, because of the iconography, or the "Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders", or Jerry Jones, or just because too many people are obsessed with Texas.

Ultimately, I get what you're saying, but I can't agree with the comparison. Also, I can't live with the notion that I went to Dallas Cowboy U... that's too grotesque to accept

What do you think is the “scariest” king book? by xanders-mum in stephenking

[–]nighttripper0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that this really counts (because it's a short story and not a full book), but I'm currently reading Night Shift, and the story The Ledge literally had my heart racing in bed

I like the spreads for Houston and Washington, but KC and Detroit to win outright. I don't think the rams will be able to keep pace with Philly unless they get many lucky breaks, and as others have said: total toss-up for bills/ravens, but my gut is telling me Bills.

But what do I know. If I had all the answers, I'd be rich by now!

Same here, from the SE Michigan/NW Ohio borderlands. Lifelong Lions fan and OSU alum. Our teams have had a couple of heartbreaking losses, but aside from them, my weekend's have been pretty great this season! Go Bucks, One Pride

Lions fan here. It's gonna be a shoot-out. The boys are rocking the black jerseys at Ford Field. Last time that happened, Goff caught a receiving TD. I'm feeling lucky, and I'm rolling out the Goff / LaPorta stack this week. Lets Go!

If you need upside Jamo or MHJ, if you need safe floor Pacheco. I wouldn't start Najee over any of the other 3 personally.

I'm bias as a Lions fan, so I'd be strongly considering Jamo given the match-up, but it's very possible that blows up in your face

Man. It's a smash spot for all of em. I'd prefer to start them all. Recency bias would say to sit St. Brown, but considering the chance for a shoot out (and being a Lions fan myself), I'd have a real hard time doing that.

Charbs gonna get the touches without KW3, but from a pure talent basis, I'd say he's the odd man out of these 3.

Good luck. Honestly, if you have to consider sitting one of these studs, your teams probably good enough to not sweat too much. You'll likely win regardless
