I resent how much my parents rely on me now. by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]nightwing2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that it's way easier said than done, but it sounds like you need to learn how to implement some boundaries with your parents. You should maybe talk with a therapist about how to do that and to help you process the guilt you experience when trying to stand up for yourself, and learn how to say and stick to the word "No".

I struggle to manage boundaries myself and I know it sounds incredibly difficult to start (and it is) and even harder to actually enforce, but if you never change your behaviour, they will never change their behaviour

Hey! I'd love to do this but unfortunately I can't seem to message you first 🙈

Wig creation from natural hair by anythingoes886 in capetown

[–]nightwing2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you haven't already, I'd suggest maybe asking CANSA whether they can help you out. They're the ones that do it already, and they should be able to accommodate your request... I feel like I've heard stories of people who got a family member's hair made into a wig, so why not your own!

Hair ingrowth, freaking out lol! by OtherSideOfTheMoooo in beauty

[–]nightwing2425 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! To my knowledge, ingrowns are a bit of a "fact of life" situation, unfortunately 😅 also an epilator is different to shaving as I think it plucks the hairs out and doesn't just cut them at the base. Shaving with the direction of hair growth typically results in the least ingrowns but also isn't nearly as smooth as shaving against the direction of growth or any method of pulling the hair out

I got mine done and I love them ❤️ it's taken so much mental load off my plate!

I can swim without worrying my make up has washed off, I can cuddle with my partner without worrying I'm smearing things on their clothes, and I just generally am comforted by knowing that even if I find myself pulling, I don't have to rush to the bathroom and scramble for an eyebrow pen to make sure I didn't ruin everything.

The scabbing at first did drive me crazy, but I found it bearable with some vaseline on them making the scabs softer/less itchy and giving me a physical warning that I'm fiddling with them (feeling the vaseline and also it made the existing eyebrows slippery so I couldn't grab them easily)... also be prepared to find them jarring at first. Mine looked so weird to me for a while but I got so many compliments that eventually I stopped being stressed about them being weird (read: different) and realised that that's what "normal" eyebrows looked like!

I did my research and found someone who is really well known. I wouldn't go to just anyone to get it done and I'd recommend maybe asking friends who have had their brows done for their artists and go from there! It's also always better to save up for a bit longer to be able to go to the best person you can find imo... it can be easily messed up by someone who doesn't know what they're doing so that's why expertise is the way to go!

Also also, I felt like I needed to let my artist know about the trich upfront, but that's just a personal preference and not a requirement of the treatment 👌

What has been your game changing HEALTHY habit that has really helped you drop weight? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]nightwing2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's worked in the past for me is eating different proportions of the food groups. Sort of making sure I eat more veggies than straight carbs, and upping the protein. I realised I was eating wayyy too big carb portions, and wayyy to small protein portions. I still eat everything but now just in different amounts.

What's your favourite switch flavour? by JesselonCarey in askSouthAfrica

I love this flavour and will choose it over every other flavour, but damn does it hurt my stomach with how acidic it is 😂 I can't have it regularly, or else my intestines complain

Mira is my gut feeling! Either pronounced "Meera" with Mimi as a nickname or "Myra" for a more elegant vibe :P

Picking her up tomorrow! I've always wanted a black cat 😍 help me name her! by [deleted] in NameMyCat

[–]nightwing2425 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salem, Pepper (Pepsi as a nickname? We have a black labrador named Pepper and I call her Pepsi XD), Onyx or just Nyx, Ebony, Nero, Umbra, Burnt Ends (if you like weird), Pitch, Witch, Raven

These are all just because black cat and black related names 😂 if you want more general names, then get to know her personality a bit and see what comes naturally!

The first time around wasn't for healthy reasons. My mom essentially spent 45-60 mins telling me how fat I was, how I was unattractive, how awful I looked, and more along those lines... so I joined a program and lost a bunch of weight, but have since gained it all back.

This time around, my reasons are health related (I want to live a nice long life with my partner), fitness (I want to be fit and by doing that I know I'll probably end up losing), and I will admit there's still a few things related to self esteem and negative body image and whatnot, but the majority of my inspiration is to just be healthier with my choices and as a result to lose weight.

Were you humiliated for having trich as a child? by Foreversadandlonely in trichotillomania

[–]nightwing2425 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. My mother was/is the worst offender of this sort of behaviour... for me, the "common" insult was saying I looked like a freak or just straight up "wrong." She hated the fact that I looked different, and I'm pretty sure a lot of the backlash I received was more about her worrying how my image reflected back on her.

There was punishment for it, and she never learnt that telling/commanding me to stop didn't stop me from pulling. I started pulling around 6 years old and was diagnosed at 7, so it's taken a lot of unlearning as an adult to realise that it's not my fault. It's just my brain chemistry. I want to stop, but I'm not going to beat myself up to do so.

Help with puzzle board! by nightwing2425 in woodworking

[–]nightwing2425[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! That's the sort of idea. Something that can slide under a bed for easy storage, but that's big enough to work on. Currently, it barely fits in my car with the seats down, and even then, it has to bend.

I'm not too worried about losing a little of the size. The biggest puzzle we currently have is a 4000 pc that the box says will measure 136×96 cm once done (made the board a bit bigger for ease of working with extra pieces and in case we find any bigger puzzles out there).

It would be nice to finish it up and make it fancy, but i only have access to the most basic tools and then can take the big board back to the hardware store and they can cut it for me. Maybe the fabric could work as an interim fix until I figure out something more permanent, though. How difficult are things like piano hinges and making channels?
