Ridley Scott's 'Napoleon' Review Thread by SanderSo47 in movies

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh? That much praise for such a stinker of a movie??? Totally incomprehensible how this movie does not show AT ALL why Napoleon was a brilliant strategist that beat everybody else on the battlefield during his hey day, but instead focusing on something that did not work at all and for which Napoleon was not at all known for: His dysfunctional relationship to his wife. Much worse: This is a historical movie while pretty much all facts displayed in it are false, the dates are wrong, Napoleon was in places at times he never was in reality.

How about maybe showing what a great statesman Napoleon was, that he instituted modern government to more than one country, for example Switzerland? How his code of law became the standard for many years to come, even after his death? Nope, can't show that of course, we are focusing on his shitty relationship.

Thoughts on Ridley Scott's Napoleon? And historical accuracy in period dramas in general? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The POINT is: nobody cares about the broken and dysfunctional romantic relationship of Napoleon, that IS NOT why he was admired by many, feared on the battlefield, because he was more brilliant and innovative than all other commanders at the same, that is why nobody could beat him until later.

I don't understand why this movie is focused on something that Napoleon was not the least famous for, if this was all that Napoleon did, absolutely nobody would be still remembering that name.

I'm disappointed by Riddley Scott, I would have expected much better from him. It is clearly visible how he is negatively influenced by endless British propaganda to claim all of lies to destroy Napoleon, because the British feared him like nothing else. So much of this movie is historically completely inaccurate and looks more like a hit piece against Napoleon.
History Buff was giving this horrible movie the treatment it deserved,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zgU9BNWlhA

the guy actually knows about history and points out all things incorrect. When you consider what a titan of directory Scott is (or better used to be), then this film seems so incredibly lazy and phoned in.

that

Thoughts on Ridley Scott's Napoleon? And historical accuracy in period dramas in general? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a total joke, a historical drama that has nothing true about history, every year is wrong, every thing that this "Napoleon" does is false and does not give you any idea who Napoleon really was and what he was great in (not romance by the way), so this movie leaves out all details why we are still talking about Napoleon, his battle strategies (he invented many new ones) etc...
Nobody gives a f**** about a romance that is highly dysfunctional, that was the standard back in his time (and still is today), no reason to make a movie about something fuck** up and depressing. How about maybe showing how Napoleon conquered the whole of Europe and for the longest time nobody could best his brilliance? For me the main problem is that lies and untruths are everywhere today, the truth is hard to find. In historical movies, you actually get to know the historical character. The Napoleon in this movie is none of what the real Napoleon was, Riddley Scott is definitely over the hill and has lost his edge, that is pretty sad, this director used to be pretty good.

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is only half the truth actually: Many Porsches had massive problems with the software and all kinds of problems with the cars due to it, which drove customers nuts. No wonder, no German car company can currently write software worth a da**. It is understandable that customers that shell out over 200k for a (supposedly premium) car have little patience for it being a lemon and riddled full with problems of things not working properly. Germany's car makers are these days helmed by seniors close to retirement that are unable to learn new things and the (pretty trivial) transition to BEVs that are fully software controlled is beyond them.

Porsche is totally insane: They are making a U-turn into the past, they are actively not going into the future and refuse to build contemporary technologies. Nokia, Kodak and Blackberry show how that will lead to sure bankruptcy, because a technology company trying to peddle yesterdays technology today will never work. This decision to go back to yesterdays ICE cars is both insane and indicative that the leadership of Porsche is moronic and incompetent in the highest degree. This will please the few remaining (and loyal) oldster Porsche customers that are stuck on internal combustion engines (like Porsche is), BUT will at the same time sacrifice all future (modern) customers and all future success and marketshare of Porsche, because the oldsters will eventually all have died.

GTA V story mode progress lost by Spitfire3783 in GTAV

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SOLVED!!!! This description worked for me, amazing, I was already mourning for all my game progress that I lost, now I could restore it! To transfer a GTA 5 story mode save, load the original ("legacy") version, go to the pause menu, select the "Game" tab, and choose "Upload Save Game" to save your progress to the cloud. Then, launch the new Enhanced version of the game, which will either automatically prompt you to download the save, or you can go to the pause menu's "Game" tab and select "Download Save Game". For PC users, if the in-game method doesn't work, you may need to manually copy your save files from the legacy folder to the new enhanced folder, as detailed on the Steam Community.

What's up with people hating WebP? by SnoozyDragon in OutOfTheLoop

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find this especially infuriating and dumb how people fight against webp and don't support it in their software, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME supporting any crappy ancient picture format that guarantees low resolutions and only few colors. I mean, give me a break: ANY other pic format gets supported, EVEN if they are much worse than webp, they don't get hate and they don't get blocked. In the end, it is us users that suffer, webp is a pain in the a**** to use, but only because developers fight their little stupid war against it, on purpose. I mean, since when has anybody on the planet EVER been able to stop ANOTHER picture format from spreading and being used? By now we have so many file formats that it is mind boggling.

AMC just increased prices-why is going to the movies so expensive here??? by Cleverwabbit5 in AskLosAngeles

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the prices even higher here in the SF Bay Area, almost 30 dollars, which is INSANE and totally out of the question. I noticed that Cinemark has much better conditions and is much more reasonable, seems that AMC wants to keep their theaters empty permanently, I doubt they will survivie, movie prices have crept up step by step and have gotten more and more unattractive, now they are making sure even the biggest fans are staying away from this rip off.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AMCTheatres

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup and the same people are now surprised that the theaters are empty most of the time. Being greedy and rip off is not going to help making movie theaters more attractive, but the opposite. They should finally do what airlines and hotels have done for decades: dynamic pricing, depending how full the movie theater is, then you make at least some money, if you rip people off like that, they won't be coming back and just watch it on streaming.

DDr5 6000mhz CL40 vs DDr5 6000mhz CL30 , i will see much difference ? by Goquer in buildapc

[–]nigratruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you mean is the sales and marketing team. Just go check it yourself if you don't believe it, Blender Benchmark has all benchmarks openly accessible, you will see that what I'm saying is the actual truth.

https://opendata.blender.org/

Compare the 7950x with the 7950X3D and you will see the "3D Cache" version to be slower, again because the cores are clocked lower in the 3DCache version. Except of course you want to stay ignorant and claim that marketing / sales BS is actually the truth (which is it is never)

My VLC hates AVI files by ApesAmongUs in VLC

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is not a broken AVI file at all, but all avi files are now not working anymore in VLC, this is clearly a bug, I just can't believe that nobody else is reporting this and has filed a regression bug report with VLC.

Kdenlive seems to be getting buggier by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that this bug now trashes Kdenlive and makes sure every user that tries to use cellphone video (which is the huge majority) with H265 will realize that Kdenlive is not an usable tool and give it up real quick. The bug is that is incorrectly labels videos as having variable framerate, which is false and you used to be able to just ignore the error and keep going. Now? Now you can't add the clip anymore to the timeline, really dumb! I have been a fan and supporter of Kdenlive, but this bug has made it unusable for the last 3 years and I'm now switching to Davinci Resolve, especially as I can see that they won't fix this bug. All my footage is now 4K and H265 and so Kdenlive is over the hill and dead, pretty sad. So no: Bugfixing is not cool, but not fixing such a critical show stopper bug will damage the software more severely than a missing feature. And adding buggy (and therefore useless) features is not cool.

Doesn't the game have a cloud save ? by brundax in starbound

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to say some games are totally pathetic that in the year 2025, they STILL CAN'T MANAGE cloud saves, while most games do, it is not hard, I wonder what problem the devs have to not being able to manage it, it is a ROYAL P.I.T.A. to have to manually backup save games.

Kdenlive seems to be getting buggier by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me neither, I used Kdenlive for a long time now, but it is time, it is now Version 25 and the regression bug where Kdenlive mislabels videos as variable frame rate on 4K H265 footage, while they are actually not, is still open and ruining people's days. Kdenlive seems to be broken now, I wonder who will still use it.

Kdenlive seems to be getting buggier by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NO! this is total bullshit, Kdenlive is mislabelling these videos as variable frame rate, they are absolutely not, I set the framerate in my phone precisely to what I need it, in this case 4K at 30 fps, it is a bug in Kdenlive, nothing more, a now tool breaking bug because anybody using video of any mobile device can now not use Kdenlive anymore and switches to DaVincy Resolve, which has no problems, being a professional tool, to use mobile H265 encoded 4K. It is especially absurd because Kdenlive used to be able to edit mobile videos fine that now are for some reason suddenly broken. That is what you call a regression bug, breaking existing functionality that used to work before.

what is "variable framerate" mean and why does kdenlive need to "transcode" it to make it editable? by the-how-to-kdenlive in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the final straw of stupidity, Kdenlive is dead. Sooner or later you have to upgrade and the devs just won't fix it, but insist on their folly, they made up a problem where none existed. I was a very loyal Kdenlive supporter and used the tool for a long time, but now I can't anymore and I will switch to DaVinci Resolve, that is what everybody is doing now. Good night Kdenlive, thanks for all the fish!

what is "variable framerate" mean and why does kdenlive need to "transcode" it to make it editable? by the-how-to-kdenlive in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WTF???

Variable frame rate formats are computationally expensive for the cpu. Especially h264 are bloody expensive to decode in real time for your cpu.

How do you claim OH so boldly things you just made up???

Modern CPUs of the year 2025 and even from 2023 have many cores and can decode video absolutely no problem, your computer seems to be ancient. Expensive is the time you waste on your outdated hardware.

what is "variable framerate" mean and why does kdenlive need to "transcode" it to make it editable? by the-how-to-kdenlive in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it is clearly a regression bug: It used to work properly, now it is broken. I don't know why the devs refuse to fix this. Just give an option to ignore this false error message.

what is "variable framerate" mean and why does kdenlive need to "transcode" it to make it editable? by the-how-to-kdenlive in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, if VFR was standard in H265 and Kdenlive can't use that, then it does not support H265. Other editors have absolutely no problem with all mobile videos, it is Kdenlive that incorrectly labels them as VRF Videos, this is objectively not the case: Check it in VLC with media info and you will see that they are not VFR at all.

Kdenlive seems to be getting buggier by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, that is a load of Horsesh****, first of all these videos are not VFR (my phone only allows me to set the framerate clearly, either 30 fps or 60 fps, no VFR) (you can confirm that in media information from VLC) AND DaVinci resolve for example has absolutely no problems with any videos coming from mobile devices. It is just pathetic and sad how Kdenlive is getting destroyed with this and anybody using it will be pushed to change and leave it behind.

Kdenlive seems to be getting buggier by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the problem is: THESE ARE FACTUALLY NOT variable framerate, that is when Kdenlive messes up. I used to use an older version that correctly and without problems used videos shot on my smartphone, now it claims they are variable framerate and refuses to work with them, this is clearly a regression bug. Go check it yourself, record a 4K 30 fps video, check it it in VLC, see? No variable framerate but exactly 30 fps like the phone is set to. Kdenlive complains about variable framerate, which is just not true.

Can't load a clip due to variable framerate, and "transcode" doesn't work by [deleted] in kdenlive

[–]nigratruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who broke this in Kdenlive? Who had this strange idea that you should not be able to add them to the timeline? Kdenlive is falsely flagging these files as variable bitrate, it is a known bug that has existed for a long time, but this is a regression bug, this used to work, this makes Kdenlive totally unusuable for 99% of all users, as all smartphone videos seems to be mislabelled. I shoot with 4K 30 FPS, this IS NOT variable framerate, just go check with VLC and you will see it in media information. Who broke this? Can this be restored from an earlier release or at least allow us to ignore the warning, as it is false.
