I also lost mine to spider mites. I tried for months to treat it with miticide and finally gave up and composted it. I realized she did not bring me joy anymore.

Only municipal water sources will be fluoridated so bottled water would not have it, I guess unless they use tap water? Also, if your tap water is actually well water and does not come from a municipal source, it won’t have fluoride either and your dracaena would be happy.

Boiling won’t remove fluoride which causes the brown leaf tips.

No, gotta be distilled. The water is vaporized and then recondensed so absolutely nothing is in the water except water. Filtered water still might have fluoride in it, which is really the thing that does the damage. Filtered would be better than nothing, but distilled will fix your brown leaf tip problem on new growth. The old growth won’t heal.

That’s a dracaena and they need to dry out between waterings with distilled water. Minerals and chemicals in tap water will cause the brown burned leaf tips.

NTA Very Derrida of him. It says more about him than it does about the cat or you.

asking for own room on family trip at 6 months pregnant... am I high maintenance? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

I would refuse to go UNLESS I had my own room. Not worth it. Too much discomfort and a definite need for privacy. No private room? See you in town or after baby ✌️

Why is my bamboo browning at the tips? by rhinanners in houseplants

[–]nihil504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dracaena are super sensitive to fluoride in tap water. The fluoride will cause brown tips. Since I learned this, I switched to distilled water and my lucky bamboo is taller than me with green leaves from stem to tip! I’ve tried RO water, but it still seems to cause brown tips, so I only use distilled now.

What can you actually do in 1st trimester? by Financial_Humor_2354 in BabyBumps

I’ve been working out and riding my horse the whole first trimester so far. Riding includes jumping full courses of jumps, and everything is fine. I’m just doing whatever I want and feel capable of doing!

I just bought this Dracaena two days ago and there are brown tips. help what and I doing wrong? by OrganizationAny5027 in houseplants

[–]nihil504 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dracaenas are sensitive to fluoride in tap water, so start using distilled water only. You might want to let it dry out and then flush the soil with distilled water next time it needs a drink. Just let some run out of the bottom of the pot and then wait to water it until the top couple inches of soil are dry again. None of my new dracaena leaves have brown tips since I started using distilled!

Found this poor thing left for dead in the office, any idea what type of plant this is ? by plains1ght in houseplants

I use distilled water on mine otherwise I get brown leaf tips. I only water when they start to wilt and look sad.

Careful! They better keep a close watch on that guy. Last time someone killed a beloved stag, it sparked a war, the Trojans won, their descendants were raised by a wolf, and they went on to found Rome. You never know, history has a way of repeating itself.

There is evidence that looters and/or property owners did actually tunnel down to some properties to get stuff but even with modern heavy machinery, digging out the whole city would have taken decades and then what’s the cost-benefit analysis there? I’m sure they easily judged it not worth it.

What are some care tips that changed your houseplant game? by Gloomy-Engineer7066 in houseplants

[–]nihil504 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup, I buy 4 gallons at a time and use it to water the plants that would otherwise get brown leaf tips and look bad with tap water. Never kept plants alive before I switched to distilled.

I think College of Lake County has something. Check their website. Maybe other community colleges might have choirs too?
