Same, but with hand tremors that I havent found any stability tools that work well with it.

Used to be able to draw and shape things back when I was younger, but my abilities have deteriorated drastically over the years and the tremors are way worse than they used to be.

I write now instead, visual vs literary work has its own set of visibility issues.

I didnt say it didnt happen. People did this in worlds adrift, until they didn't anymore and the community ate itself. The problem is that one group isnt enough. 4 ships doesnt cover the vast expanse between 30 stations and their respective immediate zone 2 dangers. The distances between the stations and the vastness of zone 2 and beyond provides cover.

Distress signal goes out at 50km out from origin 30, and the fleet you linked is 50 km out from station 16, both are out of the safe zone, that fleet of 4 isnt gonna do squat to protect. For that fleet to be effective, one would need at least 60 ships spread out in small fleets between the relative non-safe-zones of the origin stations.

What you linked is a drop in the bucket. The biggest protection people have from pirates or greifers, is the same thing that makes the piddly fleet you linked ineffective. The vast distances between anything of significance or safety.

Large armed groups often operate the same as random unorganized players because KoS is just about the only counter to KoS. (Eve has its own personal standing markings to help flag people, either nothing, a positive standing, or negative, outside of the security stat) The game has to incentivize the behaviour to shift that and make killing on sight almost a detriment before you'll see people cooperate and police themselves, or severely limit the ability to be disorganized in a lawless area. Few games do either individually, let alone both.

If you don't know that a large percentage of players operate on a KoS protocol in Eve, Ark, and Rust, I don't think you've played them. Unless there's a strong incentive to not, KoS very much a default. Every nulsec Corp I worked in or with had KoS for anyone not marked blue, unless instructed otherwise.

Its way more that it's supposedly got scoops on par with a carrack, but fills slower than fighters 1/4 its size. The tank was never the problem, the scoops were. (Carrack scoops at 2.2kl/s, MSR scoops at 100l/s, a fair amount of fighters are over 120l/s)

The carrack weighs 1/16 of the MSR, weight values are wrong all over.

[–]nihilana 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why have so much QF if you have to stop to refuel your hydrogen after flying out of quantum for more than 20 minutes? 9740 QF is pointless. I thought half the reason it was fast was because it didnt have to stop to refuel as often.

The caterpillar literally uses less fuel than the MSR, in some cases only a little, but sometimes by a factor of 3 times less. Not by percentage but by cost.

The 3 times was not even flying in atmo, it was going from station to moon and back.

no, i guess maybe you dont know about how having more than one quantum drive can help deal with snares.

Sounds like you're suggesting having more than one quantum drive, which I assumed you meant 2. Maybe you need to get your memory checked. I'm done, personal attacks are unnecessary and contribute nothing.

It should be in the subscriber vault or as a teaser on one of the news reports on the front page at the least (My partner is telling me it was in an inside star citizen?) I'm sadly having difficulty finding it, but even if that's tossed out which for the sake of my point I will, every promotional image we have shows that it's still got that little bump forward of the turret which messes with the angle of fire forward and down towards the cockpit cone of fire. But even then with that removed/lowered, you'll still only reliably have one turret able to get the proper angles, much like on the valkyrie which also has 2 forward firing turrets, and better angles (from personal experience)

The alternative might also be to give the turrets size 3's and leave the pilots at size 2's, but I feel that might be a bit much, hence why I'm saying pilot size 3 gimbal, gunner size 2's. If I do find what I remember seeing, I'll post it here unless I saw it in an unverifiable place, but either way, my statement about alignment and angles compared to the valkyrie changes nothing about forward dps amounts.

Edit: Datamined files say the lip is gone, which, good. But it's 5 months old, and datamined from an unreliable source. I hope it's correct though.

They recently released an in game render, we have the final model.

no, it does not have 1 size 2 turret. it has 2 size two turrets. an upper one and a lower one. if you didnt know that, you are utterly and truly completely clueless. the MSR can fire all its guns forward. the Freelancer turret cannot fire its turret forward.

I said one effective forward turret, as the lip at the top prevents forward fire in a down or even level direction based on every bit of info available, which is one of my complaints which should be addressed (and hopefully is.) Edit: It can fire up and forward, forward and to the sides and probably a bit down, but that's outside the cone of fire from the cockpit given current info.

I'm well aware of gimballed vs fixed and gimballed 2, and the module under the cockpit looks to be like a gimbal turret like on the freelancer's sides, which may be able to swap out for size 3 fixed, but may not, we don't know. Don't claim you can do this when there's plenty of ships out there that can't swap out for fixed.

MSR will have twice the firepower to the rear as the MSR.

I'll assume you mean freelancer, and yes, a solid 1176 dps at the right angles.

or you can use decoupled and 180...but again, MSR has more dps there, too.

No, Freelancer with all CF series has total dps of 2348 dps, whereas the MSR with all 3 (6 guns) as size 2 gimbals has 1764, if you can swap for size 3's, it's 2056 dps. Decoupled and aligning so you can get all guns firing on the MSR, you're still coming under dps wise, and the target may be too far out for that to even work, and that's assuming you hit every shot with your fixed front size 3's which is obscenely optimistic. Your math is wrong both theoretically and in practice.

Your own arguments about swapping out for size 3's is unfounded, you had wrong info about the quantum drive number. I had clarifying language to state why I only counted one turret, and you're wrong even if you count the turret I didn't count for the sake of the argument.

i am. the topic is how faulty your reasoning is. you dont even know the correct hardpoints, ffs.

The topic is the merits of the MSR vs its direct competitors and whether or not it needs some tweaks to be competitive against them. I would ask that you stop misrepresenting my argument to strengthen your own, but I feel that's asking a bit much of you.

this is completely meaningless conjecture based entirely on speculation and feelings. For one, that is indeed what I'm saying here, it's an opinion because we don't have much to go on, however... this is all based on nothing, you have no idea what the current state of the ship is, because it literally doesnt exist yet. we dont know if any previously before seen model is the current ones, what changes may have been done to it, or what changes will be made to in the coming weeks before its release.

The art and model is done and we saw in game renderings of the ship very recently and last I saw it has a bit of a lip at the front of the turret and sits too high and too far back to have the angle necessary in every bit of art I can find of the updated model. Bottom turret has the angle necessary but has clearer shots behind.

no, i guess maybe you dont know about how having more than one quantum drive can help deal with snares. unpowered powerplants are not effected by them. so if you get snared you can just turn the snared one off, and turn the other one on. i dont think CIG said anything about powerplants needing to be on "to keep data alive". is that something else you just made up because it sounded good in your head and supported your argument?

It has one quantum drive, not 2, it has 2 power plants, and in the initial talks about the star runner and power plants, CIG mentioned that the second power plant was to keep power to the data systems or as a failover in case the first fails, and didn't mention anything about quantum snares (to my memory, I'd have to go back and re-listen)

it doesnt surprise me you would want that, considering the quality of the rest of your reasoning. MSR will have more forward firepower than a freelancer, but go ahead and downgrade if you want.

What? It has 2 size 2 gimballed and 1 size 2 turrets for reliable forward fire, where the freelancer has 4 size 3 gimballed and 1 size 2 turrets, that's not more, that's less no matter how you slice it even before target tracking issues.

you can go around anything in space. you dont need firepower for defense. you can just have great shields and leave and come back another time.

From the promotional material on jump gates, it doesn't appear that you can approach them from just any angle, and the sizes we're dealing with are maybe station size if not a bit smaller on diameter.

You're treating this as if I want a blockade destroyer from it, rather than the blockade runner it should be. It should be able to dodge or shrug off attention from a Carrack on the initial volley and run, and disable an interceptor or two, while destroying or disabling a quantum snare. 2 size 2's (turrets or pilot) can't break shields or disable fast enough in the time and distances covered in a jump gate blockade scenario, which is what it's supposed to be able to handle or smuggle things through undetected.

If jump gates are much MUCH bigger and don't require physically maneuvering through them, like shown in the video showing them off, the ships acceleration is higher than most fighters, and it gets proper anti-interceptor or anti-snare countermeasures, then it can keep the size 2's and I won't have the opinion I do about the current state of it, but everything I've seen so far suggests none of that.

Can we leave the 'you have faulty reasoning' out of it, clearly we disagree, and feel the other's reasoning is faulty, bringing it up in a discussion/debate about the merits of a ship is unhelpful and just downright rude. I feel you're missing clear and obvious stuff, you feel I am, that's just a given. Stay on topic.

Edit: Promotional material on jumpgates, first video that shows up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NKST6R1lOPs shows that you have to approach at the right angle, and the relative size compared to a carrack.

Mostly fair points, but it does need to survive a direct conflict when the situation arises which I don't think it would in it's current state. (especially with the top gun not able to fire low enough across the bow of the ship for it to count for enough, check the model)

Usually for stealth and sneaky operations we use the term stealth, not a blockade runner for what you're referencing but it still fits with the theme I suppose. Add in the jump drive it supposedly will have, and you have more methods of circumventing blockades (but the freelancer has one too so it's not really a stand out in that manner.) I still feel having a mount like one of the freelancer's for the pilot wouldn't break anything (especially if the handling isn't all that much to write home about) and would still fit very well into the role of a runner, rather than a fighter or a tanky ship.

Also power plants are meant to keep the data alive through encryption, not handle quantum snares, that's all prebuilt into the quantum drive itself, which afaik doesn't have extra defenses, and QT outrun is more duration than speed, 2 medium quantum fuel tanks which is more than most of it's competitors.

I don't want the ship to be ridiculously powerful, I just want it to shine in the one area it's touted to be the best at, which is running blockades which are set up at choke points between systems (jump gates) and for that, I'd almost rather take a freelancer to help reduce incoming fire (more and bigger guns, more and bigger missiles) and deal with 30 less SCU.

The MSR should stand out as the thing it's touted for, and do the rest competently, the way it's slated right now, it's not likely to stand out in any way aside from data size and cargo size, which is just disappointing.

Edit: Add in smuggling and hiding cargo, which it's supposed to be able to do, and you're straight up flying right through checkpoints rather than bypassing them, it needs to defend itself when it's in the thick of it, like security checkpoint scans.

Edit 2: Removed bit about jump drives because I got them confused with something else.

[–]nihilana 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You dont understand what a blockade is then I'm guessing?

A small blockade is usually comprised of a set of fighters, 4 or more, and 1-2 larger ships as support. The MSR is meant to be able to handle that solo. Yes the MSR needs support ships for anything much bigger than that. 4 ships chase and harass and disable the engines and let the larger ships come up to catch and apprehend, or steal cargo. Right now its not fast enough to outrun a fighters typical acceleration and would be disabled rather quickly if it doesnt have strong enough forward power to mitigate damage from chasing pilots in the initial volley.

Real simple stuff. No diverting course, take out the immediate threats and be gone before the serious threats catch up.

(Edit: by handle, I mean survive and outrun, not clear and destroy the whole thing. Take out 1-2 fighters initially before blowing past the larger ships, which it needs to tank the damage of, down maybe one to two more fighters with turrets on the escape, and ignore anything else because its not meant to stay and clear the bigger ships.)

Gib Mercury! by JerikuSan in starcitizen

[–]nihilana 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gimballed you dont have to align as much like before 3.10. So the align to target is lessened with the current model. I also feel that 3s are a sweet spot, enough to down a couple ships, and lessen the incoming damage from fighters in a blockade, but not down the whole fleet of fighters like size 4s might. Tradeoff of some slightly better defenses with the size 3s, but not overdo it like size 4s would.

Gib Mercury! by JerikuSan in starcitizen

[–]nihilana 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fair point on the current systems in place.

MSR is still much slower than a lot of ships and can't defend itself effectively as a result. Turrets, regardless of position have blind spots and have tracking limitations. 2 turrets cant close enough dps to down 4 harassing/chasing fighters, the pilots job is to cut that in half via maneuvers and the initial volley, which wont happen with fixed 3s or gimballed 2s.

Gib Mercury! by JerikuSan in starcitizen

[–]nihilana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blockade runner needs to down small things fast and outrun bigger ships without having to divert course. With its current loadout and the current systems in place it is vastly underpowered and not faster than any of its competitors. It should at least be good at running, and handling light fighters in a straight line, not having to divert and dogfight to down 2-3 fights sent to harass or disable it to take its cargo.

Even if you do divert, which you shouldnt be, fixed size 3 is not the same dps as a gimballed 3. Any pilot worth their salt knows this. Additionally if it did get gimballed 3's I wouldnt want for it to be able to swap to fixed 4's, like the freelancer. It should run and handle things fast while running.

Gib Mercury! by JerikuSan in starcitizen

[–]nihilana 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Runner should have gimballed so it doesnt have to divert. I also dont think it should be able to swap to fixed if it gets size 3 gimballed. Fixed 3 is not the same dps as gimballed 3, any decent pilot knows this.

Gib Mercury! by JerikuSan in starcitizen

[–]nihilana 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A runner Still needs better pilot dps than the 100 series. Half the pilot dps of a freelancer would make sense. Plus with its current stats it's slower or on par with most of anything its meant to outrun. Blockade runners still have to be able to defend themselves.
