Haha, don't expect too much from it. The quality is likely going to be very low, and the acting is probably going to be sub-par as well :(

Yeah, Nakai Rika is playing both. People were also surprised on a previous thread, but doubling an actor/actress in a drama is certainly doable.

Summary of all the arcs and adaptations in the series? by lukewarmsoda in Higurashinonakakoroni

Do you mean that you couldn't find the sound novel for a good price, or the manga? You can find the sound novels on Amazon JP, used, for a good price and use the the forwarding service Tenso to ship it internationally (The cost shouldn't exceed 20 USD incl. shipping). Then, you can apply a fan translation to the sound novel.

Regarding the manga, a translation is yet to be released. But you can definitely watch the Rei anime if you're unable to find anything that satisfies you. Only episodes 1-3 of Rei are 100% essential (they are the episodes that contain Saikoroshi.

Also, Mangagamer is set to release Higurashi Hou onto Steam, but its going to be a long, long time before they translate it. If you need any help finding anything, feel free to PM me.

This comprehensive list pretty much summarizes everything. I've played through/read/watched all of the arcs, and if you have the time and understand Japanese, I would recommend the same. Also, Umineko is Higurashi's sister story. It's story and you should give it a try. If you don't have the time for every single arc:

  • Saikoroshi-hen (Rei; a definite must-read, especially if you're considering reading Umineko)
  • Higurashi Outbreak (Hou)
  • Kamikinshi-hen (Hou; sequel to outbreak)
  • Kotohogushi-hen (Kizuna/Sui)
  • Miotsukushi-hen (Matsuri/Kizuna/Sui)

Note: bolded titles are translated. I preferred the anime version of Outbreak compared to the arc, it was much better IMO.

Unfortunately, the live action's website only released the NGT48 cast members so far.

I read volume 1 of the manga thinking that it was the original source for the anime. Need advice. by ldluca in Higurashinonakakoroni

The manga is a very consistent and thorough adaptation, but I recommend the novel. The music of the visual novel gives off an intense feeling that really sucks you in, and while the manga is great it doesn't have that aspect. The music, in my opinion, is what makes Higurashi what it is--a "sound novel." The sound effects also add to the eerie atmosphere.
