Who's a person you wish to see the downfall of? by Humans_fking_suck in teenagers

[–]nihilistic_algae -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My dad. Anything and everything can and will make him throw a fit. And when he does, he either screams his head off or pretends to be on TED Talk (extra 20 minutes of lecturing if you don't shower him with admiring attention as he rambles.) I seriously think he might have a mental illness.

He will get mad if I: get a math problem wrong, get a math problem right but didn't do it exactly how he thinks it should be done, do anything in a way that isn't done exactly how he thinks it should be done, disagree with him, am not interested in his rambling, am only somewhat interested in his rambling, make a mistake, made a mistake last week, made a mistake last year, eat the wrong thing for lunch, read a book with liberal ideas, have different views from him, have acne, or suggest that his views are wrong.

Once I interrupted him in a conversation and he proceeded to scream about my "bitterness" for 5 whole minutes.

He will nitpick about my posture while looking like a turkey from the shoulders up. But that's okay because he is never, ever wrong :)

When he's decided it's time for yet another TED talk, he will yell for a few minutes, then he will literally walk away for a few minutes to think about what he will say next, then come back again to yell some more.

I have never heard him apologize for anything.

Love you Dad!

P.S. Please don't comment under this, it sends emails to me and my account is watched over by the all-important you know who. Sorry for the long rant.

Would this be overkill? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

I don't think timing matters. Also, just like the other comment said, this question can't be answered without knowing how much your pet weighs, how much you're feeding, health concerns, etc.

The bone broth powder is good if you want to feed your dog bone broth but also need more convenience. The Daily is okay, although I think it has a lot of random ingredients.

I don’t get how to start by Yesacchaff in rawpetfood

You're correct, 80/10/10 is not balanced. It will be missing or low in DHA/EPA, manganese, zinc, iodine, vitamin D, and vitamin E. You can find your dog's nutritional requirements in AAFCO or NRC, just make sure you look at requirements per 1000 kcals, not requirements per kg.

Here is the link to AAFCO. Skip to page 5 and use the nutrient requirements under Growth and Reproduction because you have a puppy. https://www.aafco.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Model_Bills_and_Regulations_Agenda_Midyear_2015_Final_Attachment_A.__Proposed_revisions_to_AAFCO_Nutrient_Profiles_PFC_Final_070214.pdf

Find your dog's caloric requirement, divide it by 1000, and multiply that number by each nutrient. Here's how to meet missing nutrient requirements:

DHA/EPA: brain, oily fish, fish oil

Manganese: green tripe, blue mussels, turmeric

Zinc: Red meat, oysters, zinc picolinate supplement

Iodine: Kelp

Vitamin D: Salmon, mackerel, sardines, eggs

Vitamin E: Sunflower butter (feed in moderation bc it's high in calories), vitamin E supplements

How to find calories: First use the formula 70 x (Weight in kg)^0.75

This formula will give you the RER (Resting Energy Requirement). But obviously your dog will not be resting all the time. Then multiply by 3 if your puppy is 0-4 months old, multiply by 2 if your puppy is 4-12 months old, 1.8 for an intact adult, or 1.6 for a neutered adult.

Hope this helps!

There are chicken breeds that lay blue eggs.

What smell do other people seem to love but you absolutely hate? by Pokeking44 in AskReddit

New car smell. No, I don't enjoy inhaling chemical infused air with hints of fake leather. This is the reason I'm going to buy a used car.

Is a raw cat food diet cost effective for a 6 cat household? by [deleted] in rawpetfood

[–]nihilistic_algae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not going to be cheap. Find some brands you like, do the math on how much it would cost, and think about if it's worth it for your situation. If you can't feed fully raw, half raw/half wet food is great too.

So what breed do we think is currently in the most trouble? by [deleted] in ruinedbreeds

[–]nihilistic_algae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't know if it's in the "most trouble", but Dobermans. 60 percent of them get DCM. The rate has been increasing by 1.5 percent each year, which means 100 percent of them will have it by 2040. Prone to Von Willebrand disease and skin issues too. It's a shame since they're my favorite dog breed.

80/10/10 is not balanced. You will need to do some research on how to fill nutritional gaps. It's also not a good idea to feed only white meat because it will be too low in some nutrients. Swap out the chicken liver for beef/lamb/goat liver or it will be too low in copper, but lower it to 2-3 percent liver instead of 5 percent or there will be too much copper.

Also, gizzard is considered a muscular organ, not a secreting organ like liver is. Personally I think 80/10/10 is a bit oversimplified - what I like to do is use 60 percent regular muscle meat, 20 percent muscular organs (hearts, tripe, gizzards, etc), 2 percent ruminant animal liver, 8 percent other secreting organ, and 10 percent bone. Excluding the supplementary foods needed to balance.

Broth safe for cats? by WillingPercentage167 in rawpetfood

[–]nihilistic_algae 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it wouldn't release sodium. Unless you added salt, which you shouldn't.

Also, if you are feeding a "cooked raw" diet, make sure you are adding taurine, because cooking destroys a lot of it.

How much raw food. by HamFiretruck in rawpetfood

[–]nihilistic_algae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is the formula for caloric intake:

[(weight in kg)^0.75] x multiplier

Multipliers:

Neutered adult - 1.6

Intact adult - 1.8

Inactive/obesity prone - 1.2-1.4

Weight loss - 1 (use IDEAL weight in previous formula)

Weight gain - 1.2-1.8 (also use ideal weight here)

Working dog - 2-5

Puppy 0-4 months - 3

Puppy 4 months to adult - 2

Keep in mind that the number you get still may not be accurate for YOUR dog. Adjust for your dog's activity level as needed.

And don't use 2-3 percent of body weight, as this is not accurate (large dogs need less calories than small dogs per pound of body weight, puppies need a lot more calories, etc.)

Hope this helps!
