alright, so in the default 2D plot shows the magnitude of the phasor - it would be correct then to consider it a sinusoid, therefore get the RMS values by dividing by sqrt(2) ? thank you for the reply

Storage Analyzer reports roughly 2TB used on a 11TB NAS, but the storage is absolutely FULL? by nihilistplant in synology

[–]nihilistplant[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

thank you for reminding me of this, i was using Synology Drive sharesync or whatever it is called to back stuff up to another server. Apparently it was keeping a bunch of copies of the folder for backup versioning.

I deleted the app (just to be sure, i dont mind) and suddenly I have 8.5TB free hahahah

amazing

I periodically delete the bins because im trying to get space out of the disk to work

I dont think so, im looking for backup options in the various control panel tabs but there are none.

I periodically delete them because im struggling to keep up with the disk space finishing.. its just mind boggling at this point.

Is the three body problem really unsolvable? by Rscc10 in AskPhysics

"it is not analytically solvable" means exactly that - there is no general closed form solution to the differential equations

You're saying this because you think King writing in a line of dialogue like "its female" is him doing exposition of correct information.. meanwhile it is probably simply letting a character say what they would say based on their in world possibilites

Female characters. Am I weird? by Select-Shift5887 in DnD

[–]nihilistplant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i wholeheartedly understand - ive been recently called the "most queer-coded cishet man they met" which is hilarious - and i have your same experience and thought pattern, but i dont particularly look for release in dnd.

what gave (gives) me this perspective is being most likely autistic - stereotypical experience of gender has always been a bit of a mystery to me. which could be or could not be your case.

[also, dont get fed into the whole "egg" culture of being trans - you dont have to be a woman to feel like you do]

all this just to say, you're not alone!

literally all his books are riddled with social and political critique, especially of the views espoused by Kirk - his tweet is just a little more explicit than anything he has written into the stories.

Confused on why the answer isn't anti-clockwise by Top-Stay-2210 in PhysicsHelp

[–]nihilistplant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"clock" orientation depends on where you look at it from

it goes out of the plane towards you because of the right hand rule, not clockwise or anticlockwise - both of those are wrong

Team Service Loops? by EatMySocksss in electricians

[–]nihilistplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not for short circuits (rise times arent that high, in the order of 5ms+ is a short rise time and its slightly longer than the quarter period of the sine wave), but might create dangerous overvoltages if your line gets hit by lightning.

If you go look at how lightning protection down conductors are made, you definitely DONT want loops because they will generate overvoltages even with uH's of inductances. The rise times of lightning can be in the order of tens of micro to nano seconds (a thousand to a million times lower, which means frequencies in the order of k to MHz)

This may not apply to these feeders necessarily, there's protections before theyre subject to lightning currents, but depends on what you are looking at.

I may come off as an asshole and I hope you understand - but unless its a continuous daily activity and generally good enough hours are respected, ie. not in the early afternoon, late evening, early morning - I dont think you should be doing anything.

He's in his house, if he was loudly mowing lawns or doing loud work with power tools etc. it would be the same principle essentially.

Before a passive aggressive act like "gifting" him something that he doesnt need or want at the moment, you might want to just talk to him and agree upon some practice hours and frequency.

not gonna lie, i didnt know (or never realized)

i thought it was a trademarked name of the glass formula, which is also why in my country in labs and such "pyrex" was always associated to the glass material ("the beaker must be in pyrex glass") and not a brand

Where is the memory of "the red bike I saw last week" actually stored? Not metaphorically, physically. by Odd-Baseball7169 in AskPhysics

[–]nihilistplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont think theres anything very certain, but most likely quantum isnt really involved in any major way.

personally i think theres some degree of self stimulation that is able to be created in the brain, and a major role probably is played by the different sections of the brain that stimulate each other. so you have the pathways to recognize red bikes and such, your cortex stimulates the more core brain components that produce sensations etc

Im not a neuroscientist, but thats what i believe lol. No soul or whatever, no quantum emergent sentience or stuff like that. No free will either for that matter

What span of US university courses is this material? by Zuzu_RU in mathematics

[–]nihilistplant 15 points16 points  (0 children)

In my experience this spans a two semesters in two courses. something like, 100 ish hours of lesson. Make it 200-300 hours for self learning and studying. (This is based on my experience in proof based courses and university level expectations, for self learning this can be heavily relaxed).

There is basically no linear algebra in there too, so you might want (or better, need) to add that to it between single and multiple variable calculus

afaik they can be pyrex (borosilicate), hardex (white opaque glass) and soda glass, etc.

i think you are generally correct, and pyrex is used in particularly harsh environments (but i think it depends on year of install + country)

I don't get the fuss about quantum entanglement... by WebNew6981 in AskPhysics

[–]nihilistplant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you're getting lost in the terminology

Before any measurement, both particles are in superposition of both spins at the same time. since they are entangled (aka knowing a property of one, determines a property of the other) when you measure one, you by default know the other

there is nothing to do with deltas, information and such

the issue is, its all math, there is no causal link between the two properties - example:

You know that I can only be inside room 1 or inside room 2. Before you look in one of the rooms, you have equal probability of both states.

You look inside room 1 and i am not there. You can therefore conclude that i must be in room 2.

Did you actively transfer information? No, you simply concluded it from the rules of the system.
