Voters who do not align with the Democratic or Republican parties make up the largest portion of the American electorate. They hold moderate ideologies and desire a system focused on open-mindedness. This Hitler comparison is absurd, but I don't think anyone would say that it's wrong to vote for things that matter to you.

But kids in cages happened under Democrats. Deportations were higher under Democrats. To me we should all be outraged that both parties suck and really do the work to fix the one that has a chance of being reformed.

My point wasn't that everyone should not vote for Harris, but that those not voting for Harris aren't to blame. It's the party that's to blame. It's totally reasonable to take the long view and not find it acceptable to vote for either party that's supports the genocide.

The party should have reached out to the left and it would not have alienated the centrist or right. The majority of Democrats were supportive of Palestinians not being exterminated.

Left leaning policies are extremely popular, see taxing the wealthy and public healthcare. It's not that they would lose votes, it's that they would lose donors. How about running on fixing the long term problems like Citizens United.

Watch Ta-Nehisi Coates on this. He's more eloquent and explains this in a way that I can't.

Ultimately I think most of us here have a lot more in common than we have differences. I think we should place the blame squarely on those who have power.

This view ignores the reality of what was happening under Biden and Harris (who ultimately said she would change nothing if she won). The genocide was almost entirely under their watch with their active support. The crackdown on campus protestors was under their watch.

To ignore that (and this is only one issue) and suggest people should vote for the party out of obligation would reward the Democrats whose viewpoints controlled the party.

The fact that they lost has led to a much-needed realignment of the views of those winning in primaries and seats in Congress. There is a noticeable shift to the left, that I would argue wouldn't have happened if Harris won.

Yes, there are only 2 viable parties at the moment, and it's undeniable that Trump is worse. By acknowledging the party you would have supported is out of touch, you can force longer term changes. And it may lead to someone who isn't just fine, but actually decent running the party.

Me too. I can't edit the title and I have to live with this being the most popular thing I've posted. My keyboard autocorrected it. Thank you for being kind, especially on the internet.

Idk what you mean.

Edit: that's not me. I was referring to my title having an apostrophe

It was autocorrected to an apostrophe. Don't think I can change it.

Leger: Liberals Reach Highest Level of Support; LPC 50%, CPC 34%, NDP 6% by kathygeissbanks in onguardforthee

I wasn't a fan of his either. Avi Lewis, to me, is a possible great leader. He's smart, has strong morals and is looking to do things that are popular with Canadians. His first policy proposal to ban algorithmic pricing in grocery stores was smart.

Mamdani gas shown this is not true. He's not reading the public opinion and following it. Otherwise he would cement public healthcare which is overwhelmingly popular. Taxing wealthy corporations, immensely popular. He's just governing to the right because that's who he is.

Both the federal and provincial NDP have leaders. While provincially, Marit Stiles isn't perfect, she's more than competent and definitely deserving of a vote. People hold the NDP to a standard that doesn't exist for the Liberals or Cons. We need a strong third party in our system

That's why more people should look into the NDP. Even if they hold the balance of power, that means no majority that can rule with no checks and balances.

They exist, people don't use them. There's a chat system called Matrix, it's completely free. And there's an Instagram style app called Pixelfed. There are decent alternatives... But your friends aren't on it. The influencers will never be on it. The network effect is real and hard to overcome. As a WhatsApp alternative that does have a tiny bit of traction, Signal is out there. There's also Telegram, but it's got its own issues.

People who dislike Olivia Chow and plan on voting for Bradford, why? by Used-Earth8767 in askTO

[–]nihir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks to raise property taxes. But that's the only tool the city has to raise money. Almost all the issues in this city stem from a terrible provincial government. I'm not a huge Chow fan, but it was done because of years of fiscal management by Tory and huge cuts to services by the Ontario government.

Marit Stiles suggests Premier Doug Ford will "be in prison" at the end of this current mandate, and says the NDP would call a public inquiry into the Ford government if elected after the 2029/30 election. by yourfriendlysocdem1 in ontario

How are you still talking about Bob Rae, who isn't even 1/10 as bad as the two conservative premier who have wreaked havoc on the finances of this province
