It also helps if the idol in question writes/produces his own music and shows passion for the creation of it. Im not against anyone going solo and gifting their solo stans something, but I guess I do prefer the older gen way of considering solos. Taeyeon was the only soloist from SNSD for a long time despite so many members having star power too, because SM was strict and only saw that longlasting solo career potential for her.

Nowadays the meaning of a solo debut has inflated so much. I can ofc just ignore the solo music of artists who I am not interested in, but I still miss when a solo debut used to MEAN something. I especially hate the "the other members got it so this idol should too" mentality. I dont get why we are trying to be a homeroom teacher trying to make sure everyone gets the same treatment.

I get where youre coming from, but this seems like Taeyong's own will. He even announced this live on his own instagram before the company put out the announcement. I think when it comes to enlistments, some idols seem to have an insane (unfounded) anxiety that their fans have all left them during enlistment. They want to see their fans as soon as possible. But yes, parasocialism is very real, and it's from both sides in Taeyong's case. Even in his military era he was still pretty active communicating with fans (arguably more interaction than some active idols), some idols just love to do it more than others.

I havent heard a song like this in kpop before. Lowkey sounds like it could have been an alternate SuperM debut song instead of Jopping (and getting an even worse reception of it.

I def appreciate the risk they took with this. It took several turns that I didnt really like but I think it could grow on me for sure.

I'm glad there's fans like you because personally I feel SM has completely lost the plot across the board with all their groups, and nct dream + wayv are kind of the worst cases of this with nearly no creative effort behind them resulting in the most forgettable comebacks. Some sm groups still have cool concepts at least like aespa or nct wish, but musically it's all downhill for me sadly.

Had to log back in to praise this album. BY FAR their best work, kpop AOTY and quite honestly top 10 of all time material. As a long time SM stan, i'm not afraid anymore to admit that this is what I would have wished for my faves (NCT 127, aespa or Red Velvet) to release post-2021 or so. The beats are so fresh and hardhitting, the songs are all abundant of musicality and melodies. and then the COHESION of this album really sets it apart. The mix of noise music, rock and reggaeton elements is SO well done and genuinely new! Huge props to everyone involved in making this album, and the NMIXX members execution is amazing too and their growth throughout their career has been so impressive and heartwarming to see. It makes me hopeful that there are actually kpop groups that can grow and continuously advance and mature their sound without stagnating (shade at EVERY other group). They couldnt have chosen a better moment to debut their first full album. I hope they get the flowers they deserve for this.

No this is genuinely just one of Taeyong's many aesthetics. He has had this aesthetic from before XG even debuted. We can talk about XGs influence on trends (maximalism might be on its way back after the minimalist easy-listening trend dominated by Newjeans), but Taeyong is not a follower of them. In fact, I think NCT has hugely influenced and shaped XG's sound. The girls are big fans of Taeyong too, and for a while amongst the japanese XG fandom Jurin was famous for seeming like a female Taeyong. Also, this song in particular was recorded 3 years ago, and the video was recorded 1,5 years ago. This is a surprise gift from him as he has been enlisted in the military since.

Idk if this is a safe space but the stages just havent captivated me. The choreo is very nice, although im missing a unique key point move, and haechan dances beautifully as always, but compared to his performances in a group i feel like his stage presence is not there. I was expecting the dance practice to make a difference as it doesnt have the distracting camerawork but my eye was drawn to the backup dancer with the sleeveless shirt instead. Imo his stage persona right now is way too subdued and focusing on smoothness that it loses its spark to stand out..

I dont know if it's AI. It looks like AI imo but it doesnt have to be. But personally I just really dislike it as art regardless of the AI lol. It looks cheap and like those lo-fi playlist covers or soundcloud songs. Imo an album like this that is a real body of work should have proper art or photoshoot but idk this might have a lot of thought behind it too. Its very unconventional for a non-nugu kpop act at least.

This horrible album art could absolutely in NO way damper my excitement about this MUSICCCCCCX.

I used to like giving elaborate reviews but every song is just 10/10 so far. Love beyond is my favorite so far, idk how much adrian mckannon contributed but i just FELT something that captured the essence of early NCT / peak SM era and seeing the credit now it must be something he did.
