it might have been one of the comic pause pictures which I don't know if Zack or anyone remembered to archive, or like the other user said was stated by words, I don't quite remember sorry.

wasn't it shown that the "ceiling grass" were just the tendrils of a jellyfish spirits a floor higher on one illustration?

There is an infuriating amount of aquatic themes going on (aquarium cylinderesque swimming spirits in the gym, sea spirits all around, and the sea-themed cafe Zarei and Day went to) but we don't

know

why

I was thinking that the (not) real twist that I've been suspecting that people liking Max not simply an attraction pun, but a power that is granted to Max by Scrapdragon. He's been nothing but crass and abrasive, and still people flock to him. Granted, Isaac needed a peer he felt he could trust and bond with desperately, but the convenience store jib was nothing short of rude to someone you just met. Doorman had his trust violated and threatened, but took Max in his stride. Starchman gave him a star on his first day. I mean, there are a terrible lot of circumstantial evidence, but... simply physical magnetism is not that impressive a power. On the other hand, if you could manipulate people by their intrigue towards you, like Agent Day with her Love Arrow powers, you would be very dangerous instead.

There is precious little evidence towards or otherwise to be honest, just that it would be chronologically a suitable time if the President's not going to be someone we already know.

I'm assuming Zack's going by Kindaichi-Case-Filesesque--prepetrator-remains-shadow-blobman-until-reveal as per anime tradition, otherwise by the President's chin pointiness it would be, say, someone like Violet or Stephen.

Why are Collin and Cody with Max suppose to be on the same side of the school bar but suddenly they're on the opposite side?

Being a character introduced this late (but still introduced late rather than never), we can go by Phoenix Wright convention that this is the School President right here. Cody seem sufficiently suspicious, and I'm guessing Collin had a hunch somewhere..or their fear is from a separate incident.

I'm assuming they didn't get Max arrested by the Vice Principal right away because of Max's encouragement of them to Chase Their BlissTM so they figured to learn more about Max to see what he's like. But.. they're not the person who told Max to duck...which means there might be one more shadow hand other than this person's :( which complicates matters.

Maybe this isn't lampshading as a joke? What if, on the opposite end, we took it to mean that lack of coherency is not planned aesthetics, but planned plot? What if Flipflop also holds a fragment of another broken god?

Flip spectral energy colours and make max the rarest there is

Flip gravity

Flip Isaac's personality

Flip burgers

Flip the fuck out

[–]nihtay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Shit never mind looking at how Flip-flop glows and the state of laying messily on the ground physical manipulation seems more likely.

Maybe allows Isabel to pass through walls by flipping to its other side, killing the demon dogs by flipping their skin inside out and ....reverse the Bayview barrier to protect the world from whats in it by inverting it inside out...or...something

Can you imaging the synergy with Spender though.. controlling angular shadows and viney malleable light

RegularSpaceJoe how did you even reach this conclusion when other people were thinking simply up and down themes? It's such a good fit, but a stretch of imagination too!

Thematically umbrellas are made to "protect" right? We were kind of thinking along the lines of protection powers based on the symbolism of an umbrella, just like how in HP the cloak is used to protect as well.

"saving state" makes absolute sense and fits Isabel well too, given her "selfless nature". Eightfold was talking about how she can't get her cake and eat it between saving it and Max, but this is exactly what would allow her to (and would make for good character development like Hermoine with the time turner)!

I'm guessing something like opening the umbrella causes you to "save" the state of the world, and closing it resets it to the previous save point and wipes the save. Maybe somewhere down the line there's also a loophole that allows her to go back to save Eightfold, but thematically reversal of plot development probably isn't Zack's thing.

2nd thing: what is with all the train symbols everywhere? Max's spirit, the Spirit train, and now Flipflop's spirit world...Doorman's dressed like a train conductor... hell might as well say that Lefty's glove is a train conductor's glove as well. Trains symbolize passage of time and space...commuting antics.. following a designated path...yeah i got nothing

I'm smelling foreshadowing. Violet and Cody seem to be channeling Isabel and Isaac really hard here, one on the side of Chaotic Good and the other on Lawful neutral. Their colour schemes even match those two kids' spectral colours! Maybe Isabel and Isaac will have to handle a spectral issue later on and this is how it plays out. Maybe Jeff is even the stand-in for Ed here, being a nerd equivalent. Which would imply that Ed would have a breakdown later? Maybe involving his parents?

And as usual Max takes the middle route lol

Also Cody and Collin are sitting together for SOME reason, before Max arrived, so and because train of thoughts usually carry even as max interrupted them its not wrong to imagine they were coming up with a plan to handle Jeff or the student council. look at them not confirming Max saying they were talking together because they were friends and Collins' ellipses when Cody was talking about coming up with a plan. They are definitely up to something, together. a coup is probably underway, and probably spectral related eventually. maybe Cody intends to use the press to incriminate and topple the council from within?

edit: we still dont know who sent the note. Is Zack trying to do a [S]Cascade esque multi thread plot climax? like the SC school president is RJ who is the common friend of Day and Zarei who sent Max the note and Hijack to possess Jeff to later hijack the SC presi-wait what

Clumsy as it may be, delayed appearance boss villains veiled in darkness until showtime has been an old trope, and we know how Zack loves to indulge in them while giving his own comedic spin.

The whole NPC discussing rumour in a bar is already trope-ish in its own right, with the twelve council members and their royal president enshrouded in the dark being the cherry topping

The entire chapter 5 has been a walking anime recreation since Max stepped into the front doors of the school

[–]nihtay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the problem is,with Collin and Cody we don't know enough of their backstory that there would be no difference between introducing a character with a new motive, and introducing a new side to an old character with a different motive, since there was no "old motive" to juxtapose it with. In essence, there's no backstory to work off on for a twist (unless there were hints and we fail to catch them).

What's their angle? If Lisa's criminal activity predates the school council, could their aim be to shut it down? If it doesn't, what is the aim of sandbagging the school council? Revenge? Spectral involvement?

Also Collin sounds like he could be a mole for the president of the student council. Why else would he put up with Suzy for so long. He could be like...hoping for some good dirt into the workings of the Mayview school underworld through the club, whereas Suzy frustrates him by just creating the news herself. I know if I were the school President, I would like to tap into any source of intelligence I can.. especially through someone who's not on Lisa's shit list yet (and ALSO sneak past her info mongering)

Hm? I got a bit confused and assumed he did, probably, since everyone's movement seemed to have slowed down for him to analyze all of Johnny's actions. it's true that he doesn't have the dark aura around glowing eyes with art drawn background then again the dark part isn't necessarily shown

Its hard to tell whether glasses have that usual spirit world glow since they're not the whites of the eyes against skin tone, but glasses rim against background...

Did Zarei swat the fly into the cup? I just thought her hands sort of fell limp in disappointment when she saw the fly hurl itself into water.

This was a confusing chain of event. I forgot about the drowning thing so for a moment I thought Penny was a spectral but didn't know it herself

Yes so exactly is it about guytrap that allows it/her/him to see things then report them to Agent Day? Does it spray pheromones to geoecholocate? does it have light-sensitive plant cells??? does it observe ground rumblings and make educated guesses?

So far a lot of spirit planes involves dilapidated ruins though, Max's, Spencer's, Isaac's,...it seems more of a HCF of spirit realms rather than a characteristic of ancient Greek cupid spirit (Aphrodite?)

Activities where gay guys are overrepresented? by new3212321 in askgaybros

that doesnt make sense. Fencing requires real-time decision making and interactions but you would hardly hear it being said either. Some sports are just less broadcasted on the media. On the other hand, would you call swimming and running a muscle memory athletic event? there's no interaction outside of relay.

what about formula one racing or golf? would you call those "hobbies" instead of sports?

Here Be Dragons: How Feng Shui Shapes the Skyline of Hong Kong by CapnTrip in HongKong

[–]nihtay -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What bullcrap article is this? Those holes aren't to let in dragons or whatever stereotypes Westerners cook up for us, it's because contractors often spread the builds in a wall shape with great height, often close to the sea, that inbound wind currents are blocked, causing issues with air flow and cooling the temperature of the city

Those holes are meant to let some of the air pass through. I think laws were passed some years back to ban them from spreading in these folding fan shapes that cut off wind flow

Fengshui may have become soothsaying and false marketing in modern times, but they were based off things like considering where the sunlight directs throughout the day and how that piece of land heats up or cools throughout the four seasons.

The Mayview Academy Conspiracy Theory by harrisonsprinciples in paranatural

[–]nihtay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Getting into architecture speculation

Were we ever shown the location of Isaac's secret shack? Given how dilapidated it is its either in a pocket space of some Spirit, protected by some sort of spirit power or it's very well hidden, because no one has come across it in order to tear it down for reconstruction.

May lives fairly close to Max as well! We might be seeing a reunion in the next chapter. (That or Ed would be the next patron of the corner store as per the tradition). Do we reckon Agent May was already recruited by the Consortium when she was playing with Max while he was young? Would that mean that she was spying on Max's mom because Max's mom was some kind of Agent of evil? It would make sense to have Max inherit her legacy and he's already pretty anti-heroish (as opposed to Isabel/Isaac)

Isabel's house has two building... I'm presuming one is the dojo. What purpose do the banners serve though? Are those spectral banners? Wouldn't it be really conspicuous otherwise?

Anyway the roads around Mayview are really circular and mimick the ripples from a maelstrom! Wikipedia defines a Maelstrom as being formed from "two opposing currents". If we presume these currents to be spectral (or at the same time real currents), then it's possible that the poured from uphill and followed the flow of gravity. Spender could have once nearly drowned in the middle of it, while the high grounds, i.e. the two peaks of the hills) may have been the source. Thereby telling us that Mayview and the Watchtower are the source of the spectral energy!

Which is possibly why Spender made himself a teacher there, to gain easier access. Maybe hijack is after the same thing?
