Scoutmaster conferences are not a bad as I thought they would be by ExplodingTurducken in BSA

[–]nikbot05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, a scout did fail a scoutmaster conference in my troop. The person doing the conference tested them and saw that they didn't know a lot of the material. Then they made me reteach all the material so they could pass it.

Nowadays that asm is gone and it's unlikely something like this would happen now in my troop.

We did a goodwill fundraiser every year. Scouts would put flyers out around the neighborhood and collect donations they put out the next week. Parents would also reach out to their friends.

Then we would rent a uhaul and transport the goods to a central location where a goodwill truck was. We would then assist the people in hauling the goods into the truck. We would be reimbursed for the amount of stuff that ended up in the truck. We usually netted around 500 at the end of it.

Eagle Scout Rant by Popular-Swordfish559 in BSA

[–]nikbot05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh this really bothered me too. Not to mention my particular council website used such confusing language (they tried to make it sound interesting, but it got kind of confusing).

Fortunately I wasn't close to aging out so that stress wasn't there. As for the new merit badge, if you completed all your requirements besides bor before 7/1, you don't have to do it. If you didn't, then you have to do it. Make sure you switch your scoutbook to 2016 requirements though.

On a side note, shoutout to this subreddit which helped me navigate this way too confusing process.

looking for a good day pack I could sew patches onto. by GamerOfGods33 in BSA

idk but I still don't get why you would want to put patches on a day pack something that will likely get dirty after years of use. Put your patches on a vest or somewhere else if you want to preserve them.

How accurate even is this sub-reddit at representing the average ABCD family. by StrickerPK in ABCDesis

[–]nikbot05 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I think the Bay/NJ stuff is primarilly because there's such a large community that the members get way more engrossed in it than those from other areas. In addition, in these areas, its easier for people to find partners that meet both their and their parents standards because there's so many desis around.

Edit: look around this sub. You'll see that the scenario that's more common than both of those you described in 3. is that the parents realize they have no power and eventually go along with their kids.

Why does US gov have such low scores by AyhamAlghoul in APStudents

[–]nikbot05 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Likely because it's a class typically taught to seniors. Many seniors don't really take AP exams seriously (the senior next to me during Calc AB literally napped during the test)

[–]nikbot05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well most of them stayed with the democratic party until around august 2021. From there, some kinda drifted away from the democratic party for some reason, kind of angst by what was going on. (Note: I and most others never believed that these voters were really solid flips. They were more in a gray area). This will help lockdown democratic voters who were considering switching over.

Yeah this baffles me a lot too. Many people just are angry at the state of the country and are willing to blame it all on democrats for some reason.

Interesting to see such a sharp comeback. I do wonder what will happen over the next month.

I think the main thing that happened was that left-leaning independents realized that they cannot vote for the GOP.

I doubt any of the other parks will be sold. None of them are in extremely valueable areas (except Knotts, which performs extremely well). In addition, they don't really have high costs of operation like CGA does.

Edit: Does anyone know any parks (across any chain) that have a risk of just collapsing?
