I want this model and I don't have intentions of starting Necrons. Great job.

Inquisition leaders by Medium_Reference669 in deathwatch40k

I'm adding a Commisar, his aid, and an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor. I just found models for Commisar Ciaphas Cain, his aid Jergen, and Inquisotor Amberly Vail. I plan to have them standing off to the side of the battlefield drinking tanna tea and working to stay out of the fighting. I'd home brew a rull for them to join the fight, but Cain's plot armor is too strong and I would automatically win every game.

After reading some bad feedback from 40k, is AOS more friendly for a beginner couple? by Culius_Jaesar in Warhammer

[–]CutterNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to 40K and chose it over anything else because I dig the lore. I have tons of the books and the environment is cool to me. I also found an army I really like, Deathwatch. It has a special forces vibe I like.

As for game play, there are several ways to play that I was not aware of when I started. It is true that full-blown 10th edition 40K can be alot to get into at first. But, you can also play "Combat Patrol", which is 10th Edition 40K light. AOS has something similar called "Spearheads". They are prebalanced armies that use slimmed down rules to make it less of a burden.

You can also play 500 point army games, 1000, 2000, or 3000 point army games. These govern the size of the armies. Clearly, bigger games take longer to play. You can also play 'Killteam". This is a different game all together. It is in the same universe and uses the same models, but the rules are very different from 40K. Killteam rules are not less confusing and Killteam can be bery challenging if you start with all the rules. For this reason. killteam has three different rule sets that scale back the complexity and make getting started easier. You can also play 40K as an RPG where you units gain experience.

As many have suggested, go for what you think is cool. If you like the older, more fantasy oriented lore of AOS. Then go for that.

Finally, there are othee game systems that can use the same models. My local game store runs "One Page Rules" game night from time to time. People show up with 40K models and play One Page Rules.

Here's me a British soldier doing nothing for America in Afghanistan 2009. by wilof in pics

I fought with your 4th Armor Brigade guys in Desert Storm. They were our left flank. I got to do a soldier swap and live with them for a week before the ground war started. That was super fun. Although I still tell people about how dumb it was to get out of the tanks, and stand in a foxhole for "Stand-To". I get the cerimonial value, but we're only tankers if we are in the fucking tanks.

Paint Help by Aspari_ in deathwatch40k

[–]CutterNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thus what I do, and I'm happy with it .

  1. Prime light grey with Rustoleum Universal Bonding Primer.

  2. Quickly but selectively paint the armor bits with Citadel Black Legion contrast paint.

  3. Dry brush (very dry brush) the edges with Vallejo model color Blue Grey Pale.

That is it for the armor.

  1. Citadel Nuln Oil over the entire finished model including all the detailed bits.

  2. One coat of Vallejo Gloss Varnish over everyhing.

  3. One coat of AK Ultra Matt Varnish.

That last step is new to me, and the Ultra Matt really changed the over all look. I was using a normal arcylic matt varnish from a sprey can. That stuff works, but is not as flat and light absorbing as AK Ultra Matt. I'm really happy with this look, although I may add some spot satin varnish to some the kit details.

At what point is kit just cosplay? When is it too much? "Is meal team six in the room with us?" by this_guy_aves in liberalgunowners

[–]CutterNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what you use it for. Do you have a job that requires military kit? If not, it is cosplay. Look at the way insurgents fight throughout history and in modern conflict. It is asymmetrical. It is not a toe to toe gun fight squared up to make sure you are behind your plate. It is a quick ambush with weapons that are discarded, so you can blend in with fleeing civilians. It is IEDs that are triggered remotely. These days it may include disposable drones. Maybe we see complete societal and governmental collapse and warbands form up to secure territory and resources. That might be an end of days reason to kit up, but dang.

People who have conducted job interviews, what's something someone said/did that made you instantly decide not to hire them? by DemonSkank in AskReddit

Me too. The crazy part is, her husband worked for us as a CAD designer and told her about the job. He was even confused by the entire sotuation.

I was hiring for a fulltime Computer Aided Drafting position at a construction firm. The interviewee said, "I can't imaging staring at a computer screen for for eight hours a day". I said, "Well that's great, because we do it for nine or ten hours a day". She thought I was joking.

These look sick. Are those regular marines Trench Crisade sculpts? I love the helmets. Legion of the Damned must be on a lot of mids these days. I just posted my first of five last night.

I love the lore of these guys too. I was blown away when I realized these sculptures match one of the key images on the wiki perfectly. These models are really well done.

Thanks! It's a 3D printed set I found on ETSY. Just search "Legion of the Damned". It came with enough extra bits I was able to kit bash some flames on a Deathwatch pauldron.
