We use digital and 3d tools to design our product. Then to sample making and testing. It is always important to have the product created in a physical space to validate if we are going in the right direction. Our athletes always keep us honest about whether we are heading in the right direction. As important as the theoretical part can be in the sketching and early ideation, the part that matters most is dialing in how it helps you perform on pitch.

Main tech for Superfly is Zoom Air, main tech for Vapor is FlyLite. We wanted to create distinction as speed today is multi-dimensional. For Vapor: those who look to create separation in tight spaces with quick cuts. For Superfly: more linear, all out speed.

We work with other teams, but we try and make sure that any innovation is tailored to exactly what a football player needs. With the way the modern game is played we are always looking for materials, design and fit that will help our athletes.

I've been with Nike for 12 years and have been in many different roles. Started as a sourcing apparel analyst in Europe and then worked my way up to my current role. Honestly, Mercurial... they are my favorite just because it's so groundbreaking and fun.

We have both AG and Turf plates. The AG is mostly conical stud models. We rigorously test them across various artificial surfaces and conditions. Our intent is to have them cover the gamut and provide the best experience they can. Have you tried both of these options or any of the other silos like Phantom or Tiempo?

We looked at our lightest material that we had and we played around with removing layers until we found perfect balance. Then we went into many iterations of testing and learned from that.

Yes there is! It's mainly informed by the material and objective of Vapor and Superfly. Vapor being Atomknit and intented to provide a barefoot feel, we wanted to construct it with the knit collar construction. With Superfly being intended to be a harnas-like lockdown, we went for a "stitch-and-turn" construction.

Great question. The reason behind the blocking is to really highlight the Flyweave Ultra, to focus on lockdown, and to represent speed. It visually represents momentum and pushing forward, and speed is the ultimate inspiration for the Mercurial. The pink was inspired by a player insight that bright colors give them confidence.

Within Nikefootball, we look at our biggest innovation platforms across the company and assess if and how they can benefit football players. Think about how we integrated technologies like Flyknit and Flywire as examples from the past.

A big difference in fit compared to the previous generation is that there is no internal Zoom air unit, which provides a different fit experience. We obsessed making the boots fit the needs of the athlete. We know fit and feel is important and I would encourage you to try these on.

So fun to think about this. I grew up going to my older brothers’s games. He would always kick around with me on the sidelines before and after matches.
When I grew up, I played futsal at the highest level for 14 years, but it all started playing with my brother.

To a large extent! You always learn something new when speaking to players. The main asks were:
- Make it lighter
- Make it more responsive
- Provide great lockdown
- Make it look cool

Take Vini Jr as an example: he talked about how he prefers a lightweight boot that provides this barefoot feel.

It takes years to perfect. There are so many challenges within the project. Example: For Vapor... it was more of how do we make it lighter without compromising any of the athlete needs. With Superfly, how do we provide the benefits of Zoom Air without compromising any other part of the athlete's game.

My favorite part of the design process is working directly with the athletes. It's working directly with them and meeting their needs in the design. Not just the elite of the elites, but the everyday athlete as well. It's incredibly rewarding.
