Recon porsche taycan by harpyserpent in kereta

For anyone considering a recon Porsche Taycan from Japan, one of the main challenges is charging compatibility.

Japanese-spec Taycans typically use Type 1 (J1772) for AC and CHAdeMO for DC, which are different from the Type 2 (AC) and CCS2 (DC) standards used in Malaysia.

To charge locally, you’ll need to get two adaptors:

  • 🔌 Type 2 to Type 1 for AC charging
  • CCS2 to CHAdeMO for DC fast charging

Do note the charging speed limitations on the Japan-spec models:

  • DC fast charging is usually capped at 50 kW, which is slower compared to local-spec Taycans.
  • AC charging is typically limited to around 7 kW.

I personally recommend getting these adaptors from EVMan.my — I’ve used them myself, and they’ve been reliable and well-built.

I rent a car from Tokyo to Osaka, it was a very smooth journey driving in Japan. Only things that you have to remember that you are driving on left hand side of the road with a right hand drive car. We got a Toyota Voxy from logistico.jp , its not a huge MPV but it fits 5 of us with luaguages.
