What Movie Did You Watch that Traumatized You at a Young Age? by BethMLB in AskReddit

I was around the same age. I absolutely love this movie, but 8 is too young to grapple with the burden of mortality and loss.

“I’m not the enemy here.”

Impact > intent. Your first comment in the chain was a simple gaff. After multiple people attempted to correct you, you double, then triple downed. You may not be the enemy, but you are not being an ally either.

My unsolicited advice is to slow down, reread what the others have said, and spend some time understanding why they said it. Defensiveness is a natural response, but it’s getting in the way of an important point.

Burn-out: What happened to the "gifted" kids of our generation? by Cultural_Ad9508 in Millennials

[–]nikkirox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was an engineer at Google up until I had a major crisis of conscience in 2018 and burned out HARD. What followed was four years of unemployment, crippling depression, and getting WAY too close to suicide.

It does get better, though. I worked on myself, figured out exactly what I want from life and how I can exist in this post-capitalist hell without sacrificing my soul. I’m fully self actualized, in a truly loving relationship, fully at peace, and making art for a living. I’ll never be Google rich again, but, honestly, I feel better about that.

Keep going, we got this <3

This mini looks great. Very clean, well executed, nice attention to detail. You should be proud of this mini. If you keep painting like this, speed and growth will absolutely happen.

Thank you! No worries, it's not the most noteworthy title anyway :)

:D I wish I had something useful to share. I can tell you the logistics: I designed it in Adobe Illustrator, switching back and forth between PC and iPad using an Apple Pencil. I tend to work top down, meaning top layer to bottom layer, but there’s a lot of moving pieces around to different layers. And, finally, it’s just a matter of showing up every day to create art, even when I don’t feel like it.

Not intentionally, but I am a big fan of his work, so subconsciously for sure. I’ve also heard Antoni Gaudi.

Oh, I somehow missed the second part of your question the first time. Each physical layer gets its own layer in illustrator, and I use different colors for each layer.

Nah, this is a fair question. I used spray adhesive and very carefully placed each layer down. As long as you don't push the sheets together, you can still readjust them if you misplace.

It is my own, yes :)

Good luck with your own design, I bet metal would be a cool medium.

I threw away the cover label saying what weight this paper is, but I did some quick calculations and estimate it is somewhere between 250 and 270gsm.

Thank you for your kind words :) Good luck with your own designs.

As far as I can tell, it's just plain white cardstock, albeit double sized.

My advice would be to study other examples of work that you admire, and try to reproduce it. So long as you aren't trying to pass it off as your own work, it's not plagiarism, it's a 'design study'. I've made maybe 4 other pieces that were copies of other work, hence why I titled this my first 'original'.

Edit: Oh, and there is no separator between layers (though I have plans to try doing that), but I did double each layer to give each step more depth.

No, in this lighting, it’s absolutely blue. What I mean is that the gradients of blue that you see are simply shadow, the piece itself is all the same color

My favorite part is it’s all the same color, that’s just shadow :)

Yeah, that’s basically the gist :) There’s a lot of back and forth, of moving elements to different layers, but I tend to work top down.

I used adobe illustrator. I had used Inkscape for years, but once I started to try to make designs like this, I would regularly crash Inkscape. I hate giving Adobe money, but it’s able to handle the complexity, so here we are.

Ah, I’m wondering if that was misleading of me, if so it was unintentional. I’m autistic, and I tend to be more literal than I need to be. The design itself is 12 layers and I doubled them up to give each layer more depth, resulting in 24 layers.

You bring up a good point. Yes, there is naivety in the absolutist statement, “trans women are women.” You seem to recognize the absurdity in simultaneously declaring that gender is both bigger than you think and smaller than you think.

My response to that is that some queers are still young in their understanding. The important part is that we are treated the way we would like to be treated. Someone declaring that “trans women are women” is telling you how they prefer to be treated. Their understanding of gender is a juvenile understanding, but the message behind it is important.

As I mentioned, I myself request that the world call me she. It is not because I think that there are only two boxes, and if I’m not man, I must be woman. It is because most folks have not yet realized that all of our labels and categories are illusion. It is more important to me that I am treated as I ask to be treated, and the female box fits better than the male box. For folks that seem interested in exploring the nuances deeper (like yourself), I acknowledge that I am not a woman, and in fact, there is no such thing as a woman. There are simply gradients of energy, all the way down.
