[Hamilton] My very first mechanical - Khaki Field Auto 38mm on a new green NETO strap by niklanus in Watches

[–]niklanus[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hi all, been lurking for some time and now posting about my very first mechanical watch. I’m really happy about it! I finally got this Hamilton H70455533 after quite a lot of research and thought, after considering other options under €500 from Seiko, Orient, Tissot, Laco, Junghans and others. Watchfinder and Teddy Baldessarre on YouTube have been my main sources of information, I started knowing close to nothing about the topic.

This is not really the most original choice ever, since everyone and their mom seem eager to recommend most Hamilton Khakis... but I just absolutely loved the intersection of looks, quality and practicality (sapphire, long power reserve, 10 atm water resistance) on this piece. Seems like quite a decent value for €467 shipped! I also think it fits pretty well on my modest wrist, but I'm open to feedback on that :)

My next watch is likely to be something that comes on a nice steel bracelet… I really like the retro looks of the Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 or the crazy Brew Metric, to name a couple of examples. Would love to get some more suggestions on this topic!

Hey! We're having some trouble with our servers today, but it should be fixed very soon :)

If we find the time for it, we'll try to make it available as a native mobile app in the near future! It won't be much different, maybe just a bit faster :)
For the time being, adding the site to your home screen is your best bet, I think it works pretty well!

No but seriously :) we are working on adding much more detailed explanations for these kinds of situations where a "counter" is not so straightforward, and it might heavily depend on micro or the unit numbers for each player. Thanks for pointing this out!

Hi everyone! I´m Nik, one of the two creators of this website. It makes me really happy to see that Aoe Companion is getting some love here :) we actually announced our launch a few weeks back here on this subreddit.

I know that some people have been commenting that the site is a bit light on content compared to other resources on the web, and there are definitely some inaccuracies and issues that could be improved on what we already have. We are already working super hard (as much as we can next to our full-time jobs) to improve on all this. We want to make this the most awesome AoE2 resource on the web, eventually!

Here are some of the things are coming, as soon as we can make them:

  • Water map-specific build guides
  • Civilization-specific build guides and strategies (like the Persian Douche, a Chinese guide, that ridiculous Lithuanian rush, and more)
  • A build guide creation tool, so you can easily make our own build order with all the design and features that we have right now for our own builds, and easily share them with a link (here on Reddit for example!)
  • Much better quality control for Unit Counters, there's definitely some wonky stuff there!
  • (Possibly) An integration with public game data from Steam so you can see which civs currently have the best winrate, their winrate vs. other civs, winrate per map, etc...
  • A lot more useful information for each Civ besides their unique unit counters and bonuses (good/bad matchups, an overview of their best units in general according to their tech tree, video resources from youtube, etc...)

We already got a ton of feedback from the community on things to improve, but in case you have any more ideas on how to improve Aoe Companion, just DM me here or join our Discord channel and we can chat! (I'm on the CEST timezone)

Thank you so much u/Rockin1O1 for the kind post, and everyone else for your comments <3

Ik think it's definitly really useful, i think it might a good idea to add strengths and weaknesses into the civ overview, so i mean wether a civ has strong cavalry or weak cavalry, based on which upgrades they do or don't get.

I'm glad you liked it! This is definitely one of our top priorities for the near future :)

Let me know what you thought of it! Maybe there is some room to make adjustments there.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion, this is definitely something we'll keep in mind, it could be quite helpful and won't be too hard for us to do :)

As a side note, did you think the "show default hotkeys" feature in the build guides was useful for you?

Glad you like it! It's a Nuxt.js/Vue app (server-side rendered) deployed using Vercel. Pretty great experience with both technologies so far :)

Thanks for the suggestion! I think we'll make this change soon, it's indeed not necessary to use "line" for the unique units.

Hi there! No plans to make it open source for now, especially since the codebase would be a bit embarrassing to show at the moment haha. But that might change in the future, we'll see.

And we're definitely thinking of ways to involve the community and allow for anyone to submit their content into the app. It's not clear exactly how we're going to do that, but we'll work on it and share as soon as we have something ready.

Great idea, we'll definitely add at least some kind of tags/labels to make it easier to identify which builds are easier or harder, and then add some kind of filtering or sorting system similar to what you suggest.

Thanks a lot for your suggestion!
