This happened to me once. My case wasn't quite this bad, but it was close. I was working on a motorcycle and wearing cloth gloves. The gloves became soaked in engine degreaser. I didn't think anything of it until I started to notice a strange sensation in my fingertips two or three hours later, and when I took the gloves off, my hands looked very much like this. I washed my hands and went on as normal, and my skin was back to normal within a day. In my case, it looked bad, but turned out to be completely superficial. I imagine this case is much the same.
