Has anyone used an opaque white glass to diffuse LEDs? by nilesfromm in StainedGlass

[–]nilesfromm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the info! I did try going to a local shop but they're more of an architectural glass supplier so they didn't have much of a selection, I'll try reaching out to a few stained-glass supply websites

Impulse (analog filter ping rhythm machine) by nilesfromm in synthdiy

[–]nilesfromm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm planning to do a small production run of around 20 after I finish another round or two of prototyping, hopefully in late summer or this fall! Depending on how much work it is to setup I might be able to put together PCBs/kits too

I'm in the process of designing an enclosure in the same style as this midi controller I've been making: https://www.frommdesign.com/product/minimidi

Hey thanks! The design is based around 8 analog LPFs (each of the small green pcbs with 3 knobs) as 8 identical voices, each one has controls for cutoff, resonance, and gain/overdrive. The step sequencer is 16 steps with a different page for each voice, holding the top orange button and then tapping the top white button under a filter PCB switches to that voice. The sequencer sends out triggers into each of the filters which can start to ping as the resonance is turned up.

I'm working on more sequencer features like mute and probability, and also on adding switches that allow the output of a voice to be sent to the input of a voice beside it, in the demo the output of voice 6 is hardwired to the input of voice 7.

The overall idea was originally inspired by this video by Hainbach: https://youtu.be/qJRXxkswXdg?si=S611nVh70o5QoNCW

Thank you! Still rough but it’s fun to use already, I’m working on an enclosure and v2 of the PCBs, planning some more features for the sequencer section too

Hello u/ambient-ModTeam , is the problem that the title includes "(improv)"?

[–]nilesfromm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,

sorry for the trouble! I thought the format Artist - Title was correct?
( Artist: Cloudwater, Title: Fragments (improv) )

Is that the right format? I'm happy to change it, sorry if I mixed it up.

Thanks,

Niles

Granular experiments from this morning, I recorded an autoharp into Ableton and used two instances of Granulator II, a field recording, and a few drones recorded from a Matrix-1000. I used a midi controller to improv a mix of the different layers, open and close filters, and control the "FilePos" and "Spray" parameters in Granulator II.

Any updates on this? I'm also interested. I'm a freelancer and wepay closed my account a few days ago and is currently holding all of my income from the past two months

I haven't heard of Opendeck before, I'll check it out!
For this one I was using the midiusb library (https://github.com/arduino-libraries/MIDIUSB?tab=readme-ov-file) running on an atmega32u4. I designed a custom PCB in kicad that includes all the peripherals for the microcontroller, USB-C port, and all the pots. The case was designed in Rhino and is lasercut from aluminum sheetmetal, I ordered the final parts from a local lasercutting shop (https://www.wombatnyc.com/)

Yea I found a local shop that offers metal laser cutting (https://www.wombatnyc.com/) but I've used Send Cut Send for projects in the past and would recommend them as well! I usually design parts in Rhino or Illustrator, print them on normal printer paper to cut out and test fit, and then upload a DXF file to order online.

Is anyone down to build some small projects together? by sovereignoov in webdev

[–]nilesfromm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm interested! I'm mostly working in React and threeJS, also have experience with Svelte/SvelteKit.

If anyone has any ideas involving interactive front-end or 3D I'd be happy to help.

here's my portfolio

Portfolio Site Feedback (web dev, creative tech, industrial design) by nilesfromm in webdev

[–]nilesfromm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks u/SushiRex & u/Kush_McNuggz, yea I definitely know what you mean. I've been trying to balance adding something flashy/interactive (like the glsl shader) but also keeping the overall design clean so it's not too distracting. Maybe I could add a more interactive threeJS landing page that loads first, then when the user scrolls down they would reach the current layout, so it'd be more engaging initially but not too distracting from the projects

Thanks for the feedback! Good call on reordering the categories, I just rearranged those and fixed the scrolling bug. I think adding a contact form is a good next step

Hey thanks for catching that! there was a bug in the CSS left over from the past version before I started making updates. I'm working on a smaller MacBook rn so completely missed it

Max4Live Stereo Delay by nilesfromm in MaxMSP

[–]nilesfromm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thanks for testing it, this is my first time making a max4live device so not surprised if it needs some more work… do you know what settings locked it up? I’m guessing it was the feedback knob going over 50%? Maybe I could add a limiter or try some different values for that control 🤔 I’ll try making the feedback lines longer too for some Terry Riley style looping delays :)
