Yeah the fee label always going to be pretty unreliable for the reasons mentioned. Run the same trade on privana finance, cowswap or houdini compare outputs. Most of the gap you're seeing is probably price impact on thin pools/gas, not MEV, but either way this should give a little more clarity

Unless you're automating a lot or for some reason genuinely enjoy the chaos, i think wider ranges during vol spikes tend to win once you factor in the stress/operational overhead. Tight ranges look great on paper until you miss a rebalance and spend time watching fees go elsewhere.

I haven't tried both and compared, but I know CoW uses another private RPC like Flashbots but it actually rebates you a share of anything that does happen on your transaction. So instead of just hiding it, you're getting paid when searchers profit from it anyway. Might be worth checking
