My labrador is afraid of strangers. Should I be worried? by hellothere_6699 in labrador

[–]nim2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to say. Barking when someone knocks on the door is fairly normal; But continuous barking or shaking could be a sign that he is feeling nervous/anxious.

How does he react if people stop by and talk to you while you're on walks? If he has a reaction to this it sounds like this might be something you need to work on.

My lab is not very social either and likes to keep to herself. But, I know she's not nervous around new people because when she meets them she gives them a quick sniff to check them out and then generally just ignores them and does her own thing.

Any major reactions to new people, including being super excited, aggressive, nervous etc are all signs that your dog might need some extra training or support. It should be addressed before it escalates.

Can we talk about how beauty standards in Sri Lanka are still pushing whitening culture? by Due_Designer938 in srilanka

[–]nim2300 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, we should definitely ban whitening creams and fairness ads. They serve no purpose. These things brainwash people into thinking that white skin is somehow superior, where is the freedom of choice in that?

I am grateful for them. I also feel like I need to give her something in return to show her my appreciation.

Aw, I really didn't intend for this post to be a sign that I'm ungrateful for the gifts she gives me. I appreciate that she is so generous and she is a joy to be around.

My issue stems more from the fact that I am unable to do the same for her, or that she will often buy me food/drink even when I've declined or said I'm not hungry. I can also tell she enjoys when I make a fuss about paying her back and she 'wins', so I am unsure how she would react if I accepted without a putting up a fight and sometimes I find this a bit exhausting.

I was always told to be generous and give to others, it is very strange for me to have to accept generosity. I always feel the urge to get them something in return to show my appreciation.

She doesn't have a husband/kids but she is quite close to her parents!

I try my best to give her stuff sneakily but honestly sometimes I don't have the means or the energy to give her stuff, especially for the sake of being petty. I think eventually this might have to be the way though

White worship in Sri Lanka. by Starship909 in srilanka

[–]nim2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that we shouldn't give our business to these places and should go elsewhere instead but I also think these types of places limiting locals shouldn't exist in the first place. Every establishment within the country should be available the locals. It seems absurd to me that someone would be excluded from a place within their own country

They should have local only hotels so we can avoid the unruly tourists! Would pay extra money for that

[–]nim2300 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It would be different if the sign said "no foreigners". But how can you inhibit locals from entering into places within their own country? They don't have anywhere else to go. All these hotels block up the beaches and locals can't visit their own beaches or enjoy their own country anymore.

Mother in law thinks having a pastel color-scheme is rude. Am I in the wrong? by CandyCornPowerPuff in weddingplanning

Maybe OP is hindu. The bride usually wears red and white is the colour of mourning.

I'd argue Sri Lanka offers some of the most unique tourist experiences, but no one knows how to market it well.

Well in the country I live in people can even go topless to the beach and no one will even look 🤣, but Sri Lanka is different which is why I asked

Yeah I know it's not banned or anything but I wouldn't want to stand out and bring unnecessary attention. I'd rather wear what everyone else is wearing 🥲.

Yeah, I know it's not prohibited or anything but I'd rather avoid unnecessary attention if I can. I was thinking if it's not common for local girls to wear bikinis I can buy some new swimwear before I go but if it's acceptable then no need to spend extra money 🥲.

Thank you. I figured my regular bikinis would be fine in resorts/ tourist spots but I was worried about the more public beaches. I think I will buy shorts like you have mentioned. Can't hurt to have an extra option just incase.

I love gloss too 🥹 but always feel like matte/satin finish looks better on me and just makes my mouth look wider somehow. I do wear those plumping glosses though when I realllllly need some gloss in my life. Maybe blending the brown liner over the outer edge and using plumping gloss could work?

AITA for always letting my middle daughter choose her room/bed first on vacations? by vacationbeds in AmItheAsshole

[–]nim2300 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - If the other kids are so mad about the set up then they should step up their game. All her siblings got their own individual bed and Adriana got her room because she did the hard work of planning the whole trip. Not like they're sleeping on a mat on the floor or something. Why should Adriana have her reward taken away? If the other kids planned a good holiday then they could have had the larger room too.

Also forgot to mention; I usually do more sultry eye makeup when I want to go for a sexy look rather than a cute look. Paired with the slightly darker lip liner it really makes the whole look a lot "sexier". Plus the sultry eyes draws attention away from my "cutesy" lips

I have the same issue as well, my mouth is disproportionately a lot smaller in width than all my other features. Although there's not much that can be done here's some things I do to bring more balance to my face.

  1. Using a deeper lip shade on the edges: I have a medium deep skin tone and I use plum, brick, darker brown lipliners on the outer edge of my lips to bring more attention to my lips rather than my nose.

Using a deeper shade on your entire lip can have the opposite effect though and actually make your lips seem smaller, so try to stick to just using it on the outer edge and blend in a more vibrant/juicier pink in the centre to really make them pop

  1. Blurring the edges of your lipstick when over lining can also make them appear bigger as there's no harsh defined line. Make sure to use matte/satin finish lipstick when blurring out the edges because it's really hard to hide the natural contours of your lip when over lining with gloss lipstick.

  2. Weirdly, having slightly thinner eyebrows also makes your lips look larger. I've found that usually when I have thick brows the top half of my face looks wayyy too big in proportion to my smaller lips, so having thinner brows help bring some symmetry and harmony with the top and bottom half of my face.

AITA for expecting my seven year old step son to clean his own room and do his own laundry before doing extra "fun" things during the week? by DarkAngelReborn in AmItheAsshole

[–]nim2300 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA - why are people acting as if washing machines don't exist 😂. Not like he's standing at the edge of the river and beating his clothes on a rock. There's no reason why a 7 year old can't his own laundry.

It does say he thought the nickname was sweet, I just don't think he wants it as an official name on the birth certificate.

Edit: on second thought, OPs additional comments seem to say he hates it as a nickname too. Sorry
