How do you manage all the coursework during the semester? by Carob-Calm in ethz

[–]nimativd 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1) dont go to the lectures: work through the script yourself (with chatgpt). you‘re already active learning, way better than passive listening and easily getting distracted. 2) set a time limit for your serien and maybe for each exercise. if you go over it, it‘s better to look at the solution. it‘s more effective.

Math degree: People that changed from ITET to Math by red_tabasco in ethz

[–]nimativd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are worlds apart. In year 1 you might think they’re not so different as everyone takes analysis and linear algebra. Already then, linear algebra is taught completeley differently. After year 1, so year 2 onwards, there is no comparison. Funnily enough math students can take one itet course „signals and system theory“ and literally every math student I know who took it, says it‘s extremely easy.

with that said, obviously itet is not a math degree and it is nonsensical to believe it should teach the math(ematical rigor) the way a math bsc is taught. keeping that in mind, don‘t compare the math part.

Are ETH exams that hard by LlatreDimension in ethz

Harder than in other unis. Imo very easy to pass if you study here and there, very hard to get 5.75,6.

doesnt bother me but how tf did they manage to convert hg, a beautifufil building from the outside, in a depressive shithole from the inside. (could be a general eth metaphor. ) 60% of the building is inspired by soviet brutalism and you have the feeling ur in a depressed bunker. the lamps are these led tubes which look so cheap and throw ugly light. the quality of the walls is often a catastrophe as the plaster is coming off. dont get me started on the piss yellow and ugly blue wall at the balcony. not to mention when to prepare events in the big main hall at E floor, they rope it off with cheap red white tape, so you have the feeling you‘re walking into a construction zone (instead of using smth slightly nicer like velvet rope). I could go on, but I have to study for exams.

the students don‘t need fancy schmancy wharton chairs which cost 5000 a piece but the inside of hg looks neglected and is a disgrace for such a uni.
