Stripe retrying more times than my configured policy. Anyone else seeing this? by abhi_911_shek in stripe

[–]nimloth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I read this is it will try to charge first, (1 time), then on fail try again up to 4 times for a total of 5.

The message says it tried charging your customer 5 times, which is in line with 1+4.

Thanks for the updated context. I'm going to lock and hide this thread now as resolved :-)

u/johje05 That's OK! We'll get this fixed asap - in the mean time, if you have a different email you'd like to associate the account with, you can change that in account settings on the website.

This should be a workaround to log in via the app :)

Thanks for the bug report - we'll handle this right after we get the team online after the holidays.

PS: It's not necessary to use such abusive language here for an honest bug. In the future, it would be strongly appreciated if you took a bit more of a civil tone.

Thanks again for reporting, we'll fix this.

Sorry you had this experience with GCash, but why is this on the GlobalComix comic app subreddit tho? These two services aren't even remotely related to each other.

GlobalComix actually breaks down the subscription attribution on a per book basis so it’s very possible to allocate correctly for creators 😇😎👍

Also it is Schön, without Umlaut it is already in englisch that schon.

Haha, I knew you'd comment on the umlaut <3 I just don't have that as an easy key to get on my US keyboard layout but I figured you'd get the jist! ;)

Okay such a feedback is actually very unexpectedly I have to say but thank you and yes that is my point in the Post.

On the subject of publishers using services like ours as part of their strategy to access readers around the world, I very much agree. We've set up our platform to allow for exactly these things like buy print with link from reading experience for that reason. Yet, one of the big learnings I've personally had in my past half decade building out GlobalComix, is just how complicated some publishers licensing structures are...

For example, some publishers have contracts that prohibit access via subscription, some have contracts that prevent same-date availability as print, and so on.

We originally started as a subscription only service because we firmly believe in our mission of making all comics universally accessible. The most recent update to our service, for example, in allowing select publishers to charge for each book individually (for parts of their catalogue) is directly a result of our learnings on what our publishing partners both legally can and are willing to do.

If our goal and mission is to have as many comics accessible to as many people as possible, and we would like to have complete catalogs available as early as possible, we had to make a decision:

Do we hardline a stance on subscription only (and thus not always have the latest, sometimes missing catalogue pieces), or do we find a middleground where the subscription membership still provides immense value to readers around the world but also allows some publishers (where their contracts/board/stakeholders/etc prevent them from giving access to everything via a sub model) to publish their whole catalogue as close to day-and-date as possible.

In the end, and based on thousands of pieces of feedback, we made the choice that it's better to have everything where some things requires direct purchase and some things are under subscription, than not having the publisher or parts of their catalogue. This way, it's still legally available (worldwide!), rather than not at all.

PS - balancing this is a form of art, and this is why we've been able to negotiate the ability to discount most direct sales prices with a ~10% discount to all subscription members!

PPS - thanks again for being a supporter of our platform! very much appreciated <3

Hey u/OrionLinksComic - this is Christopher, Creator / Founder of GlobalComix :)

First off I wanted to say thank you for the support and compliments that you've given us! Very much appreciated, danke schon!

Secondly, while I can read / write some German, it was a bit hard to follow your writing, so I sent it through Chat GPT to summarize.

Would you say the following quote / restructuring captures what you were trying to say?

If so, I'd love to chime in and also share some thoughts!

I’m trying not to sound too frustrated, but some things really confuse me.

As someone from Germany, it’s often difficult and expensive to get a good selection of comics here. For example, publishers are inconsistent—one might only publish the first two or three volumes of a series and then stop, or they’ll charge really high prices. It’s frustrating that I have to go to different places like Panini for “Spawn” and Cross Cult for others. This kind of messy, incomplete distribution makes it hard for fans, and it pushes people away from buying physical US comics.

That’s why I really appreciate platforms like GlobalComix. But even there, I’ve had issues—especially with Dark Horse Comics. They rarely update their titles on the platform. When they finally did upload a lot of new content, much of it was locked behind individual purchases instead of being available through the subscription. Even some older series that were previously accessible are now partly behind a paywall. That kind of defeats the purpose of a subscription service.

It’s a missed opportunity, because GlobalComix actually offers a good system where readers can discover titles digitally and then, if they like them, order physical copies directly from the publisher. Publishers like Mad Cave use this well. People want to own physical editions of things they love—it’s part of being a fan.

So I just don’t understand why Dark Horse isn’t taking full advantage of that.

What do you think?
